Jack Clarke

I'm glad to see this thread reaching dozens and dozens of pages a day. As we know from other recent such posts, incessant frantic gossip on here means nowt actually ends up happening!

IF Clarke is sold, with current incoming rumors here's our first and second string (with Alese/O'nien, Rigg/Browne, and Roberts/Poveda battling it out for starting spots through the season).

Patto
Hume Ballard Alese Cirkin
Neil Jobe Rigg
Roberts Simic Isidor

Moore
Huggins Onien Seelt Hjelde
Browne Adil Ekwah
Poveda Mayenda Mundle

If we sell Clarke, it would be a gut punch and slow our current momentum, but looking at those lineups, I still think we are easily a top half side pushing top 6. Add in a full back because Huggins will never be fit, maybe another winger depending on outgoings. PL loans perhaps. I don't think a Day 1 replacement for Clarke that will slot in and replace his production right away exists, not one we could ever afford anyways.

Barnes on Total Sport saying it looks like Clarke will go to Ipswich.
They’ll be negotiating over the fee and expects Ipswich to agree a £20m + £5m add on deal to get it done.

I'm of the belief that, even though we're all bitching on about Harte and the way he's whoring him about, it's done with the blessing of the club. I genuinely think they'll want to cash in but need Harte to drive the price up and hopefully start a bidding war. Harte will be only too happy to do their dirty work and look like the villain to get his payday.

The club have probably set a cerain figure as the minimum and if it's not met then Clarke gets a payrise and he stays. The club look ok and have done their best in the eyes of the fans, Harte is the baddie.

This way the club get a decent amount, some of it goes to reinvest, some of it pays some of the contracts of the player we've already brought in and some may even be used to offset some of the expenditure on the stadium.

The owners, and Speakman, don't have the emotional investment the fans have, to them it's purely business and profit is the game.

We should be taking the twats to the cleaners man. Not haggling for another 5m more. They've thrown money around all summer and now they want to try and get our best player for as cheap as they can.

Hope they get relegated the bastards. Not bitter or owt, honest

He said last week we wouldn't signing strikers tbf

He will be off like

Dang, hope Barnes is wrong on this one again. Recently he said he didn't think we would buy a striker this window.

Barnes was saying Le Bris didn’t seem 100% convinced he’d be given a striker this window.

I think Le Bris is just being canny and playing Barnesy & the other local journos like an old fiddle.

Av said all along 20 + 5 gets him and in all honesty i think thats a decent deal, unfortunately its where we are at until we get a promotion our players will go for for 5-10 million less than their market value IMO.

For me, it feels like £20m is probably enough for us to build our the depth in our squad at CB, probably sign the two strikers we need and replace him at left wing with someone who can contribute 10 goals a season.

It's perfectly possible that with a more balanced side we will actually improve in terms of goals across the side, and become a better attacking team.
Possibly but we won’t get £20m because of Tottenham’s sell on clause - whatever that is
