I never really rated Catts as having bags of ability. But he had heart and drive that 99% of footballers could only dream of having. I think injuries probably played a part of Catts going no further than us.

Thought he was excellent at around 22ish, he peaked the season we signed him which coincided with the start of a dramatic decline through injuries.
I've never seen worse displays than some of the games he played after the mega contract. Big shame for him as he should have gone on to be so much better, still made a top-flight wage though.
I mean we did have about 8 years with Cattermole in the PL before we were relegated like, not as if he came in and we plummeted.

Agree. Still remember when Benitez wanted him at Naples, and at one point his pass percentage success rate was second only to Busquets in the whole of Europe, very unfair criticism.
Not to mention the fact that he genuinely played well for us in League One and if it wasn’t for Jack Ross, Catts will have been credited with helping us get back to the Championship.

My money is on the fools will be the ones who slag 09 for not being good enough.
Where the highest position he achieved was in his first year with the club. And for nearly every season after it was a struggle to barely survive.

If you rely on Lee Cattermole you are in big trouble.
His time at the club prove this to be fact.
