The last two days of the 1981 Headingley test still stick in my mind as if it was yesterday. Just about beaten, Ladbroke offering 500/1, Botham and Dilley decided to thrash it around. Believe it or not Dilley was actually outscoring Beefy at one point.

At stumps Beefy said another 50 runs next day would make it interesting. They got four. Afterwards Beefy would say "That made it more interesting ".

Bob Willis with knackered knees kept running in like a man possessed and ripped through the Aussies with 8/43.

The best game I ever saw.
 
July 1998, Trent Bridge, days 4 and 5.

England have been set 247 to beat maybe the best South African test side ever.

Allan Donald is currently the best fast bowler in the world, genuinely fast bowling with a side of aggression.

Mike Atherton resigned as captain that winter after losing to the West Indies, he's got chronic back problems and the side is rudderless

It's odds on that England's fragile batting line up will be rolled pretty straightforwardly. The team is still carrying both Ramprakash and Hick, and wicket keeps captain Alec Stewert has dropped down the order.

Atherton backs down not a single millimetre and survives with his wicket and his life intact. A magnificent 98 not out as England win by 8 wickets.

I was there on the Monday (day 4). The post tea session was amazing
 
Whed's stance on Yorkshire is really quite odd considering what shite he posts elsewhere...

I suspect without Graves and the Durham relegation it would be quite different

Not entirely sure if it suits the thread brief or not, but the knock I saw Alex Hales play at Lords in the 2017 One Day Cup Final.

Rocky scored a brilliant 144* for us. When we were bowling, we were constantly getting wickets but Hales whacked us all over the park (via a costly dolly drop from Pope when he was on next to nothing). Just sat in complete awe watching him take the game away from us.

Atherton batting for the best part of two days to save the 95 Johannesburg test. Jack Russell also batted for hours IIRC.
