Jack Clarke

Clarke will sign and the local journos will try and spin it that it has now been agreed but wasn't at the time etc. They only know what they're fed directly from the club and the club musn't want it out there yet. Usually means it's not signed and sealed, but will probs be close.

if this is true, it's a massive statement of intent from the club which should be applauded - despite the striker bollocks

*People will still moan though of course about the colour of the taps in the BCB

It it? statement of intent?

It's great news, but I think there's a limited market for Clarke and has been all along - I can't see anyone barring a newly promoted side or someone likely to struggle being interested in him while hes got two years on his deal and we must be looking at 20m a starting price.

Makes sense in that instance for the club to commit more wages to tie down their most saleable asset so that his deal doesnt get into the last year at a time when they're struggling to bring in quality and for him, with a failed PL move behind him, to get a bit more financial security.

Had WHU really been interested and not got Summerville then it may have been different.

There's a fag paper between Summville's stats and Clarke's last season. The fact that Leeds were a play off contender and we were a poor also ran is a consideration.

Plenty of Championship teams have cashed in over the £20 mark for players. There's definitely a market for Clarke. I'm surprised he's still here.

Someone went into all the xg + a stuff the other day and Summerville's was quite a bit higher overall. I do think WHU were interested though.

I love Clarke - don't get me wrong and i'm over the moon hes signing - I said the other day I'd rather keep him and chance it anyway going into his last year, but when I see him I don't think he's a cert to do well in the PL, he's good cutting in the box from the left but he has quite 'loose ' control for me.

If he had a year left and was available for 12m or 10m I think the bottom third of the PL might have a look. but generally a lot of them outside WHU and Palace, two clubs with form for dipping down for Champ players, tend to prefer going abroad.

I think at the moment it just suits both parties.

I’ve always felt that Clarke would sign a new contract if he was still here at the end of the window. I recon Harte isn’t getting much positivity in securing him a move which has enhanced contract talks with us. Clarke is happy here but money talks at the end of the day. Still feel like if a deal is agreed in principle it won’t get rubber stamped until early September. I do wonder if the echo thing is to try and cool down speculation as it could encourage a bid if clubs are aware he’s about to sign. I’ll be living in hope it’s done and dusted though!

I think his value to us is higher than his value to a buying team. It’s teams that play on the counter that would suit him at that level - which means a lower team taking a big risk. Bigger teams with more possession need players with more ingenuity than Clarke.

Factor in the rumoured % sell on as well and our valuation is probably pricing Clarke out of a move
