How do people think we’ll get on?
I saw something the other day - which I can’t for the life of me find now
- that listed the counties and how many players they’d have missing due to the internationals and the crisp packet tournament. We have 6 missing, which is in the ‘lower tranche’ of the 18 counties. Some of the counties that play at a franchise ground are in the double figures, whilst some of the less fashionable counties only have 2/3 missing.
I think ultimately it’s so sad that success in this competition is going to end up being largely determined (hindered) by how successful a team has been at producing and nurturing talent for the national team and moreover, for T20 cricket. By doing things the right way for years, counties will in essence have largely ruined their chances of doing well in the One Day Cup. Which is frankly, batshit crazy.
That we’ll (only) be missing 6 should mean we can be competitive at the very least and if a couple of the fringe players/youngsters can announce themselves onto the national stage then we could quite easily end up qualifying for the knockout stages.
