Durham v Northants T20 14/7/24 @ 2:30pm

Thought it was in the balance truth be told
They needed 24 runs from 12 balls with 6 wickets remaining and they absolutely pissed it.

I thought they were favourites truth be told, but we were favourites with the bookies and the cricinfo predictor thing after 6 overs.
We are simply not good enough in this format and let’s be honest the south group is a lot better standard than our group.

I still feel if we had Bedingham fit for it all we’d have qualified by now.

I agree on your point about the South Group mind.

Whilst it's "better" than under Franklin, that isn't saying much. We don't seem capable of "thinking out of the box" which is a huge a concern and truth be told I did expect better this year.

This has been a very underwhelming competition for us and the matchday experience truth be told at home is getting worse.

Hopefully the 50 over competition serves us better, it will be good to see some of the "fringe" players

I agree with this. The plans worked out pre match and no flexibility to change. The group this year has been ordinary especially with Notts having a shocker and with the experience we have we should have made top 4 comfortably.
To many players not produced anywhere near enough starting with our top 3 batsmen and our overseas t20 specialist.

Look forward to 50 over comp. It appears we still have a lot of players available but surely they have to play some of the younger players although nobody done much with the limited 2nd Xl cricket that has been played.

There's been a slight improvement this year but let's be honest we are still an average at best T20 side, especially with the bat.

Our batting in this format is simply not good enough. The top 3 have been out of form and for a large part of the campaign we've had Raine as our no.5. Like I said earlier in the comp it feels like we are trying to play an out of date brand of T20, hoping to score 140-150 and squeeze the opp with the spinners. That's not going to win many games in a world were teams regularly get 200 nor is it going to get people through the gates to watch.

It sums it up that Bedingham with only 5 innings still has the most sixes in the comp for us with 9.

So why were we favourites after 6 overs of their reply?
We weren't like.

If they needed 24 off 12 they had kept up with the rate required.

The De Leede over killed us, in a short game better off bowling your best bowlers out to build as much pressure on the last two overs.

Sowter should have bowled the third over or even Dwarshius bowling out instead of De Leede.

I'd have gone to Ackermann or Turner instead of De Leede. He always bowls with no plans.

Anyway the bowling choices of last night are just a small part of why we've failed again this season.

This is the biggest annoyance for me. I was critical of it under Franklin and rightly so but I've been alarmed at seeing it again this year. Yesterday and the game on Thursday (Yorkshire away) prime examples. Arguably the weakest north group I've known and it seems we won't qualify which for me is unacceptable.

Yep absolutely spot on and no learning between games either.

The Yorkshire game was pretty much a carbon copy of our first two games.

Truth be told I'm not sure but they need to be playing. It's very much a development/second team competition these days so it's time to give them an opportunity. Bushnell/Killeen/McKinney/Hogg/Drissell/Coughlin/Mcalindon/Gibson/Jones (I don't think he's with the 100/Mustard/Borthwick needs game time and possibly Carse if his ban is up (not sure) and Robinson. Might well see some academy players involved also.

I hope we do get to see Ollie Robinson. I suspect he won’t play a game in the hundred and he could do with some time at the crease, he and Durham would get so much more out of him being with us than the hundred (apart from him getting a few quid I suppose).

From what i can see the following are involved with 100 or test squad
Stokes
Wood
Potts
Clark
Robinson
Parkinson

And Sowter
Bedingham missing too

One Day side probably be something along the lines of the below. Or rather everyone below is who we've got available AFAIK.

Lees
Jones
Borthwick
Ackermann
McKinney
De Leede
Mustard
Raine
Coughlin
Bushnell/Killeen/Hogg/Robinson/Gibson/McAlindon/Brassell/Glover
Drissell
