I’m angry we lost, but I can’t really fault the bowling selections if I’m honest - Parky’s last over undoubtedly lost it for us, but his first was very good, he’d taken a wicket and only gone for 8 runs. On top of that, the three overs of spin on the trot had yielded just 20 runs off the bat which was well below the asking rate at that point and had taken us from rank outsiders to slim favourites. Imagine the ridicule if he’d gone back to pace and the same outcome had occurred?!
The skippers options for the penultimate over were Parkinson (1-8), Raine (0-15) or De Leede (0-23). With 24 needed, it seemed obvious they’d decided Dwarshuis was bowling the final over.
It’s easy to be wise after the event, but on closer inspection the best choice was quite clearly Parky - short of giving the ball to someone who hadn’t bowled - given the small sample size available to that point.
My only real gripe was that I’d have played Coughlin over De Leede, he’s done nothing at all this season.
The bigger story I think is that batting last in a game so short is such a massive advantage and overall, when a T20 game gets shortened by over half the intended overs it turns the game into a total farce.
