VAR as a concept needs some work. Sending the ref to the monitor is bollocks. If there is a significant miss (not a wrong decision, a miss) then the VAR overrules. Serious foul play and the like.

Should have kept it a line decisions which is definitive. SLO-MO decisions of balls glancing off arms in an “un-natural” position (presumably not on the end of shoulders) does my bonce frankly, as do the people on this thread defending this cancer upon the game. Well, that’s me. Goodnight

It’s not done by a person therefore it’s not a guess.

I think that one shouldn’t be offside because it’s so close (and against the spirit of what offside means), but it’s not a “guess”

A “guess” implies someone is making a judgement. They’re not here

It is. As you can’t say that’s 100% offside, so why get involved?

It’s literally made the most popular sport in the world worse

I’ll leave it as that game proper wound me up and I’m not even danish or care about Germany

Just sick of football at mind. Nerds sat at computers deciding games over decision that don’t need making

There is absolutely no way you can say for sure that’s offside, you’ve spoilt the whole point of football which is to celebrate a goal, why has it be introduced

There is a sensor in the ball that let's them know when the ball is played. It will not get any more accurate than that. Laws are there for a reason. Yes ideally it would be used only for howlers but offside is a lot more binary. When there is so much at stake now in football due to finances, relegation and promotion, its important that the highest percentage of decisions are right.
Ultimately I want things to be correct. I'd prefer a review system ala cricket, rather than reviewing everything but think there would still be issues via that as well

No one made that decision apart from the technology. No one guessed

I agree that’s a bad outcome, but it’s not someone sat at a screen making that decision.

Not sure what you’re disagreeing with.

No one guessed. The technology made the decision. You may not like it, I get that. But no one is guessing there

Then don't watch it. That is the way offside works now. If it was around when football was invented it would have been used then as well. If the attacker is further forwards its offside, and it works exactly the same for everyone.

Modern football at this level and top level leagues all have it

Agree fully.

I do think we need to split out two things

1) ambiguity of the rules
2) getting to the decision

If the handball decision was made on the field tonight it would still be absurd (albeit technically correct).

If the offside had been slightly on, but given off by the linesman we wouldn’t be having such a heated conversation

There are separate discussions, but obviously linked
