Anderson finished?

He’s still our best available test bowler madness forcing him into retirement

He’s not in my opinion or he won’t be soon

What’s gone under the radar is how little overs he bowls in a day, which you just can’t have, and he really struggles to take 2nd innings wickets

I’m a bit surprised but he has been on the slide, he was really poor in the ashes, his lack of penetration with the new ball was a major reason we didn’t win the series
I wouldn’t be totally shocked if he plays more tests if the first goes well, we’re woefully short at the moment

I thought they’d give him another summer

cricket journos reckon this is not about the ashes yet it’s about India at home next year, which is why we might still see woakes, even tho he won’t go to ashes

There's not a great deal to challenge him admittedly but he's undoubtedly on the wane which is why Potts, Cook and Pennington have to be given opportunities.Just haven't got any bowlers, apart from a fit Stokes, to succeed in Australia.

And next summer too

Tbf Wood is absolutely dynamite in test cricket these days, I just wouldn’t play him this summer

Wood, Archer, Woakes next summer would be my first choice attack, obviously couldn’t play every game

I really rate Tongue just can’t stay fit

What we really really need is someone who can just bowl an average of 85/86 every ball, we’ve never had anyone like that for years.

I think Tongue and Pennington are ones being eyed up

Cook defs worth a look for Anderson role

I like Potts as he takes new ball wickets but is an absolute workhorse who can bowl all day. We missed that last 18 months

Sorry longer post than I wanted but that’s my thoughts

Last series in India he bowled more overs than all the other seam bowlers combined.
Last summer's Ashes he averaged 38.5 overs per match, only Josh Tongue's one off game was more.

So to sum up. What?

He hasn’t be bowling that recently, he’s also not been taking wickets with the new ball

I get your point like but he’s not going to the ashes is he and hes never been amazing in oz

so dont you think good to get games into some others?

That's literally the last 18 months of his career, and he's bowled more than any other pace bowler. The claim that he doesn't bowl enough overs just doesn't add up.

Last two away Ashes series he's taken his wickets at around 26, we'll be begging for production like that next time around.

There's room to play the next generation whilst keeping Anderson around, especially now that Broad has retired. Robinson is a mess, Woody can't be relied upon to bowl a full series and the next generation are dropping like flies.

Maybe I get what you mean, but he is taking less wickets with the new ball and isn’t taking basically any wickets in the 2nd innings

Maybe we could have just left him out for bit but my own view is we need more penetration with the new ball, or try see if we have anyone.

Just remember how bad he was in the ashes, might just be an off series but no way he should have played 4 tests
