T20 World Cup 2024

Going forward

Brook
Buttler
Rash
Salt
Jofra

I would retain those from the team tonight

Then you have

Duckett
Jacks

Who need a lot more game time

There’s 7 and I’m positive we have young lads in domestic t20 to make a new squad

They just need a chance

Time for a refresh. This team has been going backwards for a while now.

Mott out for someone more hands-on. Retire YJB, Ali, Jordan and Wood from the format. Keep Buttler, but not as captain. I’d give it to Brook.

My mistake-I was sure you were once full of praise for his leadership skills. Won a World Cup because of it and not with one he inherited. If he had such leadership skills how has he suddenly lost them?
He's an undoubtedly talented white ball cricketer, end of.

I disagree that Morgan won that yeah, they won it and well and deserved a run but they've been awful last 2 tournaments

and the pre planned nature of their tactics has driven me insane the last 18 months

they deserved to defend this World Cup IMO anyway but I dont rate Buttler as a captain at all

Hopefully players like Jamie Smith, Gus Atkinson and Sam Hain get a good opportunity.

Hain for example averaged 96 with a strike rate of 160 in the Blast last year batting at 4 yet we continue to pick a squad full of openers.

Totally agree , it has to be done and this is a perfect time to look at those lads

Taking the tournament overall, on paper, we gave a par performance. Obviously, that’s not the full story. We did well to beat the West Indies and we came close to beating Sourh Africa, but the vibe was poor overall. Not as bad as the wretched ODI World Cup but poor, nonetheless.
Good assessment

Can you clarify and justify that claim. And explain how Buttler has lost the leadership skills you claim he had?

He's clearly a pleasant guy. Hasn't got the knowledge or ruthlessness for leadership

Mike Gatting has never lived a reverse sweep down since 1987 and that was possibly the first ball by Alan border bowling

He won’t be forgetting tonight’s howler for a canny long time either

We seem to be obsessed with fast paced bowlers and while thats ok for test cricket, Id rather we looked at bowlers who are maybe not as fast but can play more variation and accurate tight bowling.

This. We really needed to move on from some of this lot long before now. We’ve got some exceptional players coming through who aren’t getting the chance due to cloggers like Bairstow, Ali and Jordan hanging around like a bad smell at this point. Which is a massive shame as they were part of our best ever one day era from 2016-2022ish and should be remembered as such

I dunno what you mean. It had nothing to do with Morgan that win

It’s like blaming Morgan for this defeat

Yep.

It’s a fair point about specialists

Not convinced Hain is international standard meself tho

I like Brook at 4

Everyone rushing to dump all the players I’d just hold fire a bit, let it settle

I’d understand if it was test cricket but a lot of these players would fetch fortunes around the world.

The main thing we need is better leadership, think you’d be amazed how much that would help
Yeah I have thought that for a while players like Wood with the hard ball flyers all over in T20.

Wood is good on quick pitches, you just pick him accordingly

Jordan and Curran for me are the ones I’m not convinced by
