Regis le Bris - confirmed

I'm not going to pretend to know enough about him to have a strong opinion.

I'm not interested in comparing win percentages outside of context. Beale's was 76% at Rangers.

He's managed Aouchiche at L'orient so hopefully he can get the best out of him.
It’s Lorient. No apostrophe. Unless you mean Leyton Orient

Sounds like he's used to having the fans hate him reading about the fish malarkey, useful attribute as I don't think he'll be given much leeway, a bad start and things will be poisonous in record time. And with the squad as it stands a bad start is more likely than not.
I’m not sure that’s as true in the ground. this place is absolutely toxic, but I’d like to think the majority are more level headed than the people who whinge and moan constantly on here.

With Beale it was palpable no one liked him, no one wanted him, and he was going to be a disaster. This one is much more up in the air because we don’t know much about him and therefore i would hope most give him a fair chance.

A third of a year and we appoint a geeza with 30 per cent win rate and a relegation to his name …. The piss take party us louder and more active than ever ..
They’ll be looking at what he can do here. Even a relegation will be ignored if he’s a good fit.

Now I know they made a disastrous with Beale.

But clubs do and should look past win ratio.

Can't argue with the effect, but the setup was drastically different with each. Mags took the piss out of us because we surrendered the wings playing a diamond. Made Dan Burn look like roberto carlos. Dodds played 3 at the back for most of his games.
We lost the game to the Mags because the coach failed to notice that everything goes through Guimaraes (104 touches that game) and should have been manmarked by O9. The fact that Guimaraes gets booked so often by lashing out when pressured, should have endorsed the tactic even more, as 09 would have irritated the shit out of him.
Gordon was always going to dive around and get people booked so someone should have put him into the stand at the first opportunity. Burn is also so slow we should have targeted that left wing, getting him having to turn and chase. They use a high press so what did we do? Get continually caught trying to play it out from the back. I cannot recall us playing a diamond. We just bent over and let them shaft us, whatever that formation is.

These are supposed to be professional coaching staff but cannot see the blatantly obvious.......laughable.

Look he was relegated last season in a piss poor league, now I am quite sure KLD would like similar here so as not to need to spend. They are really taking the piss now.Heckingbottom anyone ha ha

I think you’ve got that exactly backwards with Robbins and Mowbray. Coventry brought in Simms and Wright for a pretty big outlay. We signed a few bairns who weren’t up to standard.

I don’t know who they replaced their top three scorers with, but it obviously didn’t work. I don’t think you can blame Mowbray for Hemir not being as good as Ross Stewart, by way of example.
Just had a look out of interest. Lorient are pretty much in the middle for gross income / expenditure and net spend. The five teams around them in the relegation zone spent < £10m compare to Lorient's £30m. Reims are a good comparison. They finished 11th the season Le Bris finished 10th. They sold 29 players for £75m including Ekitike who was their top scorer and both of their centre midfielders. They spent £50m in return to finish 9th this year. There are various other similar examples. Just seen they had the 8th highest budget in ligue 1

I just find the defence "Well they sold his two best players" is dismissing a lot of worrying signs. There were several ligue 1 sides that worked under similar conditions that didnt get relegated. Its a factor he had to deal with and it made his job harder sure but pretending it was insurmountable or suggesting Lorient have never finished any higher than 10th or are lucky to be in the division is sweeping the facts under the rug.

I'm not picking you out for this in particular by the way...

Sunderland’s view is that it’s worth scratching a little below the surface in that regard. Le Bris’ initial promotion to the top job at Lorient was hugely successful, finishing in a widely-praised 10th-placed finish. Le Bris is understood to have been on the club’s longer-term radar since around that time, at which point he was heavily linked with the job at OGC Nice - only compensation prevented him taking one of the biggest jobs in France.

With key players (whose development Le Bris had played a key role in) departing as a result of that strong campaign, the belief is that there are mitigating circumstances for last season and that it may have presented them with an opportunity to hire a coach of a calibre who may otherwise have been out of the reach of a second-tier club.

Other factors in Le Bris’ favour is his record in youth development, having spent long periods both in the academy at Lorient and also at Stade Rennais. His English is said to be good and Sunderland believe both his coaching and playing style will suit both the squad and the wider strategy

A fan of the club he’s about to leave saying he’s got potential and thinks he will do well in England. That’s promising.

This bit too:

“He likes a nice game with short passes but without worrying too much about possession. Lots of quick transitions. He plays with a team that is tight in defence but ready to explode quickly. However, he does not try to swing far ahead - it builds up.”

Sounds like us in the first Championship season and would suit the players we have,….if we get a decent forward.
