Dave Challinor - managerial rumour

😂 We'll never know that. Maric may well be brilliant at the level he's working at but so is Challinor. They'd both be risks, Maric possibly a bigger one due to never managing at any senior professional level.

Not saying I'd choose Challinor btw.

So if both are sat and willing to take the job, who you picking then?

Apparently we’re also looking at Jamie McLean. He got East Boldon Juniors to the semi final of the school county cup with an aggressive 4-2-1-3-1 formation. He overachieved against his budget of £500 a year and has a PPG of 2.34, even though his best player moved to Denton. Also good bringing through youngsters.

Well, he's just as much of a risk as Maric and Still (apparently) so why not.

I'd go for Maric, simply because of the fan reaction to someone like Challinor. He'd be met with massive negativity.
Maric would arguably be a bigger risk but is seem as more glamorous

Surely it doesn’t matter in what level of football you’re managing at, it’s about maximising the effectiveness of the players at your disposal. Move up the leagues you should be working with a higher quality squad of players. His record shows he can get good results wherever he’s managed so why not at a higher level?
I don't think it matters as long as clubs do their homework and make sure if they hire someone from that level that they are fully suited to the job being asked of them. Shankly's jobs before Liverpool were Carlisle, Grimsby, Workington and Huddersfield, Graham Potter's clubs before he went to Swansea were Leeds Carnegie and Ostersund, McKenna at Ipswich had only been coaching youth teams at Man U and Spurs.

So no footballing reasoning there at all mate. You'd just go along with a decision to keep the fans happy?...surely you can do better than that.

I'm not sure what footballing reason you're expecting with the prospect of Maric. Unless he watches Bayern U19's in his spare time, what type of opinion could he have on him?

Footballing reasons is pretty tough tbh. Hes 31, never managed a men's professional team.
In footballing terms you could argue Challinor is the better bet.

I'd go with Maric too but because I think his background means that he could be genuinely top class, we might never get another chance to appoint him. Like Mainz having Jurgen Klopp, or Aberdeen having Fergie.

After the last two I dare anyone we appoint to be worse, virtually impossible. His CV is canny and the two lads I know who get down to Stockport were very positive about the stuff they played. Why not, nobody seems to want the job and we need a manager

So the club go from sacking Mowbray, a well respected experienced championship manager and in their statement justifying this decision say “"Central to that approach is a relentless demand for a high performance culture to be implemented throughout the club”

The club is then linked to a number of young foreign coaches before appointing ….. Michael Beale.

After an agonising yet highly predictable short tenure Beale is dismissed with the club saying …Our focus is now on the players and supporting Mike Dodds in the remaining games to ensure we achieve the highest possible league finish” - we crawl over the line in 16th place.

The season ends with yet more links to prominent young foreign coaches. Rene Maric, Will Still, Raphael Wicky are all said to be imminent appointees at various times yet the links now emerging point to Robinson and Challinor.

Does anyone get the impression they don’t have a clue what they’re doing ?

If we appoint a bloke like Robinson or Challinor we may as well rename the club Poundland AFC.

What we f***ing about for then? Get the lad in and let's see how he does.

Looks like League One/ Beale appointment at beat, but I can see fans on here have such low expectations now that we all should be wanting ourselves daft at the prospect of Stockports hard coach.

Yet more, who have still blindly got their tongues up the clubs arse and can do no wrong.
I’m as frustrated with the club as anyone
My point is people are heckling at the idea of this bloke yet are dead excited by Maric as an example who’s done Fuck all as a head coach

The pedigree of being around elite players, a hugely successful club with other coaches to learn from. Tactics and playing styles that will be expected to be used through all levels from the first team downwards. Managing expectations.....pretty much everything that comes with being employed at an elite club like Bayern.

As its been mentioned many times, all appointments comes with risks, but its up to the club to try and whittle those risks down to one's that look manageable and even some the cub itself in terms of recruitment and backing can elevate.

For me, Maric would fit better with what the club says it's trying to achieve, but then again, that has looked more like lip service rather than anything substantial. Challionor would probably be the better fit in terms of coming in and asking for nothing, due ro be thankful to be given the opportunity to work at the club of our size. Only my opinion, but if we chose the latter, I could see another Beale scenario and Dodds being back in charge at some point in the season.

At this point I'm not sure the club itself has a f#cking clue as to what it's doing.

There is that as well , aye.
Sir Alex had 2 clubs before Aberdeen though.

Rumours that this board thrives on to have a free hit at the ownership.

Not sticking up for them by the way, but the over reaction on this place to rumours is embarrassing.
