Dave Challinor - managerial rumour

Who has 'equated managing in the National League and League 2 to how tough it is in the Championship'?

All of them I've seen (including my own) are just giving a biography of his career and/or his stats, which is a pretty normal thing to do given it's likely most will not have heard of him.
The stats are irrelevant at such a low level imho

I'd have done all we could to try and get Steve Cooper in. Especially in light of finance now supposedly been thrown at the Still deal.
Aye that would have been a good (and popular) appointment, but he's supposedly fucked Burnley off, so seemingly not yet open to Championship clubs.

Where do you turn after that? It's either coaches who have achieved something with lesser clubs/abroad or coaches who have disappointed in similar jobs.

There's a few in this thread saying look at his record in the National League and League 2, and yeah I'd not be that disappointed. You said yourself you'd have him over Robinson, when the answer should be I don't want either.
No, people have mentioned his record in the NL and L2, not to compare those leagues to the Championship or to claim Challinor should get the job but because those are literally his records in the NL and L2. If the biggest praise for him that you've seen is me saying "I'd take him over the shitter version of Jack Ross" then I don't think he's really getting praised at all.

I know nowhere near enough about him or his style of play to say I don't want him at all and I wouldn't rule out a potentially suitable manager just because they've not managed at Championship level yet but I'm of the opinion that we desperately need to get away from dour British managers and need a continental coach.

You think trying to prize a Bayern coach is the same as bringing in someone who's been head coach of Stockport and Pools?

DUUUUUUUUDE!!!! 😆
Bayern youth coach. I wouldn't be against him coming here but it would be as big of a gamble, probably bigger, than someone like Challinor

How is it any less ambitious than appointing someone who's only ever been a assistant like Maric who most people seemed happy with.
To be honest I think we've reached the stage where any manager we'll realistically appoint will be roundly mocked by some, and the club only have themselves to blame.

Wouldn't be a million miles away from Rob Edwards after he got a Championship job.

The level of players that Dave the rave has worked with would probably get spanked off a Bayern youth side man. Despite him only being in charge of the youth, it's still a big job at somewhere like Bayern.

If we end up appointing (with the greatest of respect) someone like Challinor or Robinson it won’t be because of their win ratio or potential IMO it will be all down to other candidates refusing to work under the parameters of the Sunderland model.

If it happens I genuinely expect a relegation battle next season.

This is a big worry

Why not do something mad and just appoint both of these lads. The first club to have dual managers.

Luke Williams went from Notts county to Swansea, he's done ok

He’s not foreign mate with fancy YouTube ‘masterclass videos’ is the answer
He’s working way up the levels quite successfully, weird people scoff at that so dismissively yet they get wowed by a Maric as example who’s literally never managed a dressing room before it got any body of work to support he’s good choice as a head coach
Still also nothing special but again people seem to be all in on
Bloke who’s churning decent career for himself on upward trajectory from bottom up is ridiculed, makes no sense to me
Not a chance that it will be him mind

Literally no-one has done that, almost every single post in this thread is mocking him and equating him to a school PE teacher.
Surely it doesn’t matter in what level of football you’re managing at, it’s about maximising the effectiveness of the players at your disposal. Move up the leagues you should be working with a higher quality squad of players. His record shows he can get good results wherever he’s managed so why not at a higher level?

We should go for Craig Harrison. Only one blip on his record at Hartlepool. Currently an 80% win record at The New Saints and beat the record previously held by Ajax for the longest winning run in a top flight division.

😂 We'll never know that. Maric may well be brilliant at the level he's working at but so is Challinor. They'd both be risks, Maric possibly a bigger one due to never managing at any senior professional level.

Not saying I'd choose Challinor btw.

What we f***ing about for then? Get the lad in and let's see how he does.

Looks like League One/ Beale appointment at beat, but I can see fans on here have such low expectations now that we all should be wanting ourselves daft at the prospect of Stockports hard coach.

Yet more, who have still blindly got their tongues up the clubs arse and can do no wrong.
