What has Speakman done to be so hated?

Basically he's a gobshite. Nobody likes a gobshite, so if you are one you'd better win .
if hed had less to say, hed be getting less stick but its too late . Clamming up now just makes it look like bunker mentality .
What he needs is to make sure his two marquee signings tgis year deliver . Then he needs to hope against hell a couple of his players labelled duffers turn it round . If for example, Hemir and Pembele develop strength out of the blue and Ekwah get a more advanced spot where he flourishes, hes saved his arse and Jobe is the icing on the cake as finance .
If that happens he'll be entitled to his " i told you so" moment but i hope he's learned and would keep it to himself .

3 consecutive poor transfer windows. Failure to get some reasonable strikers for the level. Continuing not to address what we need, experience, strikers and a defensive midfielder. 3 windows have passed since Evans injury.

A terrible head coach appointment then giving someone out for their depth in Dodds the reigns for a few months.

The last 18 months has been a disaster after a very encouraging start. Unless lessons are learned, expect another relegation.
Sums it up pretty much perfectly for me. He has absolutely failed at his job now for at least 12 months and the head coach takes the shit for his failures. Despite the utter data driven drivel spouted we’ve seen a complete shift in playing style largely due to his poor recruitment. Then there was the disastrous Beale appointment who in turn took the brunt of fans frustrations after the club built up expectations only to hire another out of work cheap option. Admittedly a lot of that was way over the top but even he spotted fairly quickly what we were lacking but simply didn’t have the players to change it. We then move on to Dodds, who was so far out of his depth if the season had 3 or 4 more games would have taken us down. Got a good result against Leeds and that became his go to line up regardless of who we were playing. If we are serious about this “succession planning” then surely there is now no point in Dodds being here. He will remain and will no doubt get another shot at the top job whilst his mate is in charge.

He's signed some exciting young players, managed to get 10 mil for a crock with only a year left on his contract, got out of league 1 then the next season immediately in the championship play offs under him. We are moving in the right direction under him after languishing in league 1 for years. He has made a number of mistakes in a short period of time in the last couple of months, but overall he is doing a good job IMO
Fuck off Kristian

I don't think he does, but he'll get the chance nevertheless. From his interviews, my concern is that he is too arrogant to see the mistakes that he's made. Or he's too stubborn to hold his hands up.
It’s more likely he can’t hold his hands up because they are tied
That's exactly what relegation will be. And unless he takes ownership of those mistakes and learns from them, we're in big trouble next season
They have already said the model will be getting tweaked what more do you want public hanging ??

Done some good stuff early on.
Academy is great , he's on top of getting players to sign new contracts.
Signed some good players early on.
The 3 teams who got promoted last year coming back down shows that probably the only way of going up and staying up is by young kids coming through and striking lucky with a few being premier quality, not by signing 27+ yr olds who definitely aren't.

However signing 4 strikers in the summer who just weren't good enough , and he should have realised this in Jan and got another in, then bringing in Beale means I wouldn't care if he went.
It's a huge summer for him to convince people he knows what he is doing.

This penny pinching?
There are threads on here about Sunderland accounts.
Penny pinching as in buying 3 players not fit for purpose in stead of 1 player who is fit for purpose. No need to spend any more money than what has been spent. It’s false economy.

They are tied to a mid table budget, looking at the accounts. But he fails to get middle of the road strikers or defensive midfielders.

If you haven't got the money to get the best young players or you need to accept it and be pragmatic sometimes. We should have went out and got a couple of strikers who can lead the line and have got championship experience or similar level. Even if you know they aren't going to tear the league up or be resold for big money, they are reliable. Then once you get them in you can take a punt on a youngster who you might think has a higher ceiling. What speakman did was take punts on kids in the hardest position on the pitch. It backfired badly.
The warning signs were there early doors, regarding arrogance and stubbornness, when he said Dajaku could play as a no 9.
"The nine position is like any other...."

It’s not like we don’t spend money. For the last 3 windows it has just been spent very poorly. This stock piling of young players who might be ready in 12/18 months isn’t free.

Every team in the division wants that player it’s not as easy as people think

Exactly. I don't expect us to compete with the parachute payment clubs. I have an issue on how we use our resources.

No chance.

Clarke, Jobe, Ballard.

Jury is still massively out on the rest.

This isn’t football manager. You buy players to play them not just cause you think you’ll make a profit on them.
You seriously thinks we won’t make a profit on ba and Ekwah cirkin alese hahahahaha ok mate whatever the fees were tiny man altho ba is erratic his stats show goals and assists

If we only signed 1 player fit for purpose this season we would of struggled to field a team at times
Every team in the league wants middle of the road, 12 goal a season, journey man strikers?
Yes every team wants a proven championship striker

Except us!
Because Speakman thinks he knows better. And he'll turn his nose up at a Will Keane, Lucas João who would have been ideal. Or even a Jordan Hugill who would have been a handful and led the line at the very least.
