The Spirit Of 37 - Upcoming displays

fair enough, thats not how i read it. the discussion is about the south stand, the atmosphere and why some people feel the need to criticise those who try and start chants off. its a common theme on here 'the south stand is crap, quiet, doesn't make any noise, full of kids etc..' .. usually said by a ST holder who adds zero to the match day atmosphere
You have no idea if that's the case like.
I thought it was fairly obvious like, clearly not.
If you've got form for slagging off match going fans then don't be surprised when people interpret similar posts in the same way. Pretty straight forward really.

Any good atmosphere is usually generated by what's going on the pitch. Last seasons play off game was a prime example of that, even the premier Concourse was bouncing...

It is, but you go to grounds around the country and they get every stand joining in.

Fratton Park is a good example, that place is loud as fuck at times. Very rare you get all 4 sides of the SOL singing.

I get ya however It's a small old fashion ground, I think it's hard to recreate that in a large bowl shaped stadiums, Other clubs have the same issues..

It is.

But you can still configure the SOL to be better for the majority of (mundane) games. The back and forth with the away fans used to do that. The SOL was never perfect but by modern standards it was good.

Now it’s only loud if we beat the Mags, relegate the Mags or it’s a play off game.

I’ve said it before with my tin hat on, but the Boro fans behind the goal make a decent din when there live and they have a drum.

If that's the case what's the point in discussing anything? People want KLD and Speakman to go and its 95% of the content on here but that also isn't going to happen anytime soon either.
If we're serious about the atmosphere at home it will not change until away fans are moved. The 'work' involved would simply be to put the away fans where they used to be and give the fans there now an incentive to move in the ground. Some simple marketing and communication with our fans could see it implemented by the season after next. The club have every means necessary to do so and it's nowhere near as difficult as you're making out. If anything the away fans in the South Stand is far, far easier for the club to manage than where they are now

It’s just whingeing, cos some people can’t get what they want, the discussion on here has been done to death a hundred times.

Boro’s ground set up is perfect imo (aways in their equivalent of the SEC) and one of the main reasons they’re loud.

Rate their home support too these days. Their SO37 banner at the game down there was comically bad though.

Hopefully the atmosphere will pick up next season if we get a decent head coach in, make some signings and there's a tiny bit of optimism. Safe standing might help as well. Don't think the communication around the standing area has been great mind, almost certain that some will sit during the first game and complain about people standing, despite it now definitely being a standing area. Hopefully the club will allow moves after the first game of the season to help address that.

Maybe the safe standing barriers will prevent fans from sitting

Unless I'm mistaken the blocks that will have safe standing all stand up anyway?

The rail seating area should be ringfenced for a group like Union FS at Leicester. It would help reign in the Burberry scarf brigade too. It won't be though and we'll just have the current arrangement up there but with added metal railings.

ive been supporting sunderland since the late sixties and the 4 best atmospheres ive witnessed were city cup 73,west ham cup 92 ,chelsea and everton under fat sam...........the away fans were in the north upper for the last two.......its not the juxtaposition of the away fans to the home crowd that matters ..thats childish shit!! ..its the quality and excitement of the football on the pitch ad the importance of the game that counts..the everton game is the closest(ne cigar though) ive seen to the gold standard of noise that was the 73 man city game .............the unwashed up the road have no trouble creating a noise and their away fans are in the gods.......even a thousand away fans behind the goal looks shit and wigan couldnt fill a row of seats ......

Its the middle three blocks so aye, I expect most stand anyway. There's bound to be some who would rather sit though, and they'll probably say if there's a seat there they should be able to sit and still see the game. Hopefully everyone will just stand and will embrace it mind, because it should be canny. If all three blocks are currently 100% standing then hopefully it'll be an easier transition!

Personally as everyone stands anyway in that section i dont think it will make a difference to the atmosphere ... i have nowt against rail seating at all as long as everyone using it is happy with it ..i just dont think it makes much difference as its 1;1 density. it will be like watching sunderland play at roker .. standing in the fulwell end with 15000 in the ground where you could literally swing a cat between you and the next supporter!Personally i think they should have made the blocks in front of the goal safe standing (awkward to do)...and policed the upper tier properly ie hoying anybody out thats standing in a seat section (offering them a spot in the standing section if available first)."if you want to stand fek off to the standing seats" would be my cry ;)

Personally i think the rail seating consists of a bit of tokenism ..bread and circuses bollocks to quell the masses (consider the timing of the announcement and the content of the package! To be honest there is little in it for them to deploy any more rail seating even if its a success as it will cost them money and with no real financial return to it because of the fan density....people wont pay more to stand and there could be a call in the future to reduce prices for standing..(are the rail seats cheaper than the normal seats in europe?)...to be honest its a bit of a logistical nightmare to deploy very large areas of rail seating as some fans will want to sit and some cannot stand and there is kids to think off so i doubt we will see a full end of (expensive to club)rail seating anytime soon.

What do you mean by this? How do Leicester manage it differently?
