I think the flags added a lot to the atmosphere - i'd love them back for next season.
As for the whole Ultra's thing - this is the way football is going.
We generate good atmospheres for the big games, but the majority of the time its terrible - it would take some orchestration to get the home end going. Its no good referencing days of old as to how we used to generate noise. Those times are no longer applicable, its much easier to generate spontaneous noise when your stood on a terrace and all the like minded people congregate in areas to sing (like the the cage of main stand Roker wing). If today's youth want to form an ultras group let them crack on with it and they shouldn't listen to a load of 30s, 40s 50s+ blokes tell them otherwise as its not like it was in the old days.
