Don't renew

Renewed but with loads of doubts and zero enthusiasm. Sounds daft but I got my first season ticket when Mick Buxton was in charge so I’ve seen everything in that time and I’ve cancelled it twice over the years but still ended up going to every game anyway and spending more! I’ll keep plugging away as I know for sure that if I give it up again I’ll never go back.. that’s the risk the club are taking as I think there are thousands of sad twats like me who keep clinging on in the hope it’ll change.. next season will be pivotal.. I reckon crowds will be down 4-5k on this season anyway but could end up a lot worse if those in charge don’t f***ing sort it out.

I generally think fan protests never work, except maybe you can create some media attention. I think my £420 per season being removed is not going to make the owner want to spend millions, even if 10,000 of us did it I think it's more likely to make us worse than better.

I think we're along for the ride, without any say in which direction it goes, stop going if it is what you want to do.

Seeing loads of comments such as "ive been a ST holder 50 years and thats it for me this is the worst ive ever known" now there are many reasons for not renewing and its a personal choice and i wont criticise anyone for not going if thats genuingly how they feel, but the worst ever, really ?

We are mid table in the championship and therefore it’s definitely not the worst I’ve ever seen in terms of performance.

There is, however, a major disconnect with the ownership which they need to address

The fact the club have sent out representatives to certain areas today picking out individuals that have not renewed and asking why tells you all you need about what's going tohappen come the end of the season.

We will be back down to around 23,000 season ticket holders next season.

The club are a complete mess from the top down. I heard someone asked why they weren't renewing and they replied"i put my money in at a percentage which is way over what I can afford to live on, who's doing that at the top"

Silence.
Did they really have people going round asking this? Shows they’re nervey at least as it’s probably the most proactive thing they’ve done recently puts people on the spot though

Need more info on this.

Did this seriously happen? Anyone else see, hear, or have first hand experience of this?

Yes, accounts managers were going around in certain seated/hospitality areas in the ground chasing people as the deadline is looming. Tick sheet in hand.

Lots of people giving 'feedback'. The prices have reached tipping point as you're looking at nearly £1700 for Quinns and seriously upwards for business/Montgomery/Riverside.

I understand the self sustainability part - but if you look at the Sponsorship lists there are no really big sponsors - it's all local folk who are putting their hard earned money into something they love. That love isn't being reciprocated and the tipping point has been reached. Even Hays Travel isn't big in the grand scheme of things business wise - and she's one of the biggest we have.

Pitch, lights, speakers, repairs etc all quoted for the price hikes.

Lots of people going onto a match by match basis or chucking their tickets until the club sort themselves out .

Treating people like mugs only goes so far.

I don’t get the “don’t renew” shouts but then I’ve always struggled to understand some of our fanbase when it’s come to losing and/or being relegated. Maybe it’s because I’m not a local and I’ve never had a season ticket myself but I’ve been to enough games over the years. I remember an end of season game in the Premier League against Derby and some wally threw his season ticket at Peter Reid.

If you’re struggling financially or have other stuff going on in life that’s more important than watching a load of blokes kicking a ball about, that’s completely normal and fine and I wouldn’t even dare to judge or advise but to give up because we’re not winning, I just don’t get it. Since I’ve been following football, Sunderland have played in a League Cup Final, the highest finish has been 7th and the only trophies we’ve won have been second division trophies, a fourth rate cup competition that included the youth teams of Premier League clubs and a play-off final. Now, I’m not denigrating those achievements because they’ll go down in the clubs history and there has been some good memories attached to some of those but we’re hardly Real Madrid or Barcelona, so binning your season ticket because we’re losing now is unusual.

I get the whole ownership thing. I’ve been critical of KLD since he arrived but that was partly because I’m fed up of crap owners, here and elsewhere, and still embarrassed and cringe about the Sunderland Till I Die shite on Netflix. Bain and Salmon Pants bumbling about like some sort of comedy sketch is etched into my brain probably as much as relegation to the third tier and some of the shite we’ve witnessed over the years.

I’ve backed the “model” and I think it’s been good for the club overall but I think the way it has been implemented is the issue. Signing some of the players we have and playing some of the football we did under Mowbray was beyond my wildest dreams when losing games in League One with blokes like Callum McFadzean and Will Grigg stinking the place out. The failure to compliment the squad with experienced heads and departures of the experienced players we had were bad decisions. You look at Brentford and Brighton, who get lauded for their approaches, and you’ve got Ben Mee (34), Mark Flekken (30), Ethan Pinnock (30), Christian Norgaard (30), Mathias Jorgensen (33), Lewis Dunk (32), James Milner (38), Pascal Gross (32), Adam Lallana (35) and Danny Welbeck (33) as the “elder statesmen” of those sides and plenty more examples of blokes who are 25+ in their sides around a crop of younger players. That’s where we’ve gone awry, I feel.

Decisions off the pitch and the way the club has been rung has always rung alarm bells. KLD is slippery. The whole charade around the share split, the shop, ticketing, the whole refurb to accommodate the Mags, it’s a shambles and that side of things is worth getting pissed off about, I’ll give you.

Just a bunch of kids throwing their toys out of the pram.

What won't be missed from them all jacking it in is their negativity after 15 minutes.
