Pre season tour - Zimbabwe

Nice to see Gibson have a good game. Not sure what will happen to him and whether he is actually good enough to make it as a county cricketer but i always think he has a very stylish run up and bowling action.

Surprised he's still on the staff. To have been retained for so long they must have seen something. Hopefully Bunny has worked the oracle.

I think this is the last summer of his 2 year deal he signed. Make or break i suppose probably the same for Bushnell.

I'm not sure where Bushnell will fit into the line up in the CC team. Or McKinney.

The top 6 line up is likely to be
Lees
Jones
Borthwick
Clarke
Ackermann
Bedingham

After that you've got Ollie Robinson and 4 bowlers.

I think @wayne entwhistle no9 point the other week about Borthwick moving up one and opening is a likely scenario.

Can't see us only going in with just 3 seamers and even in early games I'd imagine they'd want Parkinson in the side. If they don't then Jones in for Parkinson and everyone moves down one.

Lees
Borthwick
Ackermann
Bedingham
Clark
Robinson
Carse
Raine
Potts
Boland
Parkinson

If the above is the XI Jones,De Leede, Coughlin the backups in squad. So unlikely we see much of Bushnell, McKinney, McAlindon or Gibson

I don't see Jones making the starting line up. Also i think Robinson will stay at 5 he was outstanding there last season.
Carse if he is fit to bat at 7 and be used as a genuine all rounder.
Plenty of competition with Jones Bushnell Mckinney and De leede all hopefully doing well and putting pressure on the first Xl.

Yeah dunno why I had Robinson/Clark wrong way round.

With Carse likely gone by the end of May and all of June, De Leede definitely a good replacement for him.

His batting at one point last season he was averaging 112(albeit small sample size).

ECB will undoubtedly restrict Carse and Potts availability so it could be wise to alternate those two. DeLeede is Campbell 's pet project so he's guaranteed to be a 1st choice.

This is England's fixtures this summer and corresponding games our players would miss if selected.

Pakistan T20 22/05-30/05 (1-2 CC games and 2 Blast games)
T20 World Cup 03/06-29/06 (2 CC games and 6 Blast games)
WI Tests 10/07-30/07 (4 Blast games)
Sri Lanka Tests 21/08-10/09 (3 CC games)
Aus T20 11/09-15/09 (1 CC Game)
Aus ODI 19/09-29/09 (2 CC games)

Yeah i think he will be itching to get him in the starting line up. In old football terms i think he will be the classic number 12 super sub replace a late middle order batsman or make up a 4 man seam attack.
In theory we start the season with the strongest squad we have had for years and that is not taking into account an academy/rookie player coming through to force his way into the first Xl which is always a possibility at Durham.

Be interesting to see if mustard gets a go in the shorter format stuff

You'd imagine he's going to be the keeper in the One Day Cup seeing as he's the only other keeper on the books.

We had to use Clark there last season as Mckintosh was with Scotland and now he's retired from cricket.

IT's got to be unlikely that we'd see both Carse and Potts in the side at the same time ... . . so there's scope for variations of Bushnell, Gibson, McAlinden, Coughlin, De Leede and, who gets the nod would be up to them although I'd reckon De Leede would likely be first reserve.

Robinson will play in T20 as a batter certainly. Does he keep or give Mustard a chance ?
Looking at the squad, we will have a strong 2nd team this year.
Play both in T20 something has to change it might be the making of him you never know Robinson might get England call up as well.

Interview with Potts in the Independent
“I’ve built up some knowledge and some wisdom out there and if there’s a slot open (with England) know I can be effective. There will be spots available to compete for this summer and I have an eye on that. I’m going to keep doing what I’m doing, nudging my name forward, see what happens.”

Potts, who was handed a two-year central contract in October, is now planning to throw himself into pre-season with promoted Durham after two prolific campaigns in Division Two.

With Stuart Broad now retired, Ollie Robinson’s status uncertain after a disappointing return to the side in Ranchi and Gus Atkinson so far untried at Test level, there is a route opening for a 25-year-old with 23 Test wickets at 29.26 and the likes of Kane Williamson and among his victims.

I want to get out there bowling, taking wickets and winning games of cricket for Durham. That's what got me into the England in the first place.
“I leave selection to selectors, they pick the best squads they can to do the job, and I can only control my end and put in performances,” he said.

Should have both for the first 5 CC games.

I'd like to think we have both for the sixth game starts 17th May and the first Pakistan T20 is the 22nd May
