Midfield
Agree with thisBy being arrogant sods all weve done is make two more football games more boring.
It's a bit embarassing really

Sunderland's record away to Boro has been awful since 1960 though, and in that time we have *tended* to be slightly better/have a better team than you. I think there is an element clearly of the players at Boro being more up for it than our players. Its a derby but its not the one. I won't feel nervous until the teams announced. When its the mags I feel nervous for a month leading up to it. Someone said its 3 wins in our last 31 games at Boro? We have won as many league games at Anfield in the last 45 years as we have at Boro.My take on it (said on here a few times) is I'd say SOME Boro fans think of it as a 'derby' because you're the nearest club to us (on a similar level), but obviously you're closer to Newcastle than us - a lot of your respective fans will work together, drink in same pubs and in some cases be in the same families, so your matches against them are bound to mean a LOT more.
Personally, I'm not bothered either way - it's a match that I'd like 3 points from - I'm too long in the tooth and with real stuff going on in my life to be concerned with who hates who the most.
I would say though, that this idea that we get more 'up for the game' than you is an odd take on it - surely people can't really believe that as a reason why you have a bad record on Teesside.
It's almost saying your players don't try cos it's not a 'big enough game'.
I'd also say that it being our 'cup final' is a load of tosh.
It's quite conceited and disrespectful imo.
Just my views.
Maybe only because there’s hardly any clubs up north east. If you were north west or midlands for example you wouldn’t be classing a club 30 miles away as a derby game
Used to work in Billingham. A 'mag' and a boro lad there. Used to talk about the football with the Boro lad.Its not a derby but theres more spice to it than say playing Rotherham, personally like to see Boro do well and would have cheered them on to win the league cup, would never ever cheer Newcastle on in any game ever, theres the difference for me

I can’t remember a decent game v mboro at mboro as we normally miss sitters and get beat
thankfully we have a red hot striker in form going into Sunday
About 18 years back2-2 Liam Miller equaliser, quality game.
A well rounded and sensible response.Boro fan perspective; obviously we regard Sunderland as our main rivals I’d say during 90’s/00’s it was Newcastle but generally always been Sunderland and it’s accepted that we’ll never be your main rival, ultimately does it matter? I always consider us similar to the East Mids Forest vs Derby >> Leicester.
Unless you are 50+ everyone in Teesside see’s themselves are proper North East and “some” older folk still say Yorkshire and hate Leeds.
Always found regardless of opinion Boro vs Sunderland other than this daft subject that always pops up now, have always had great games with lots of talking points, great atmosphere, goals, flash points and the usual off field clashes although I don’t condone tends to add that spice.
Hard for Sunderland to relate because you’ve always had that huge rivalry with Newcastle which goes beyond Football, but if you see things from our perspective you are both big clubs, with big crowds/catchments representing your city/area and we are that smaller club wanting to compete and beat you, football is tribal at the end of the day no matter what anyone says. Loads of Sunderland fans in Teesside/South Durham. I work in Peterlee with Sunderland fans & got my Sunderland mate a ticket next to me, hopefully I get to walk in Monday bragging!
Now now, I thought we weren't allowed to swear about the football? It's a derby of sorts. It's cringey as fuck when people describe it as another run of the mill game
Your lot do seem to take the game against us very seriously.I'd say in a lot of cases since 1960 we've been better than you.
None of that stacks up - basically then (by that logic), since approximately 1960, just about every Sunderland side has come down to Boro and just had no motivation to do their jobs properly and try to win?
Strange how Newcastle have a better record on Teesside?
And are you also saying that Liverpool get themselves 'up for games' against Sunderland but Sunderland don't?
I think it's either we're a bit of a 'bogey' team for you , or we're just better.
It’s got a bit more of an edge other than that not really importantWhen I was born Boro was in North Yorkshire officially. I personally do think it's a Derby game. 30 miles away. I actually don't mind Boro. The Geordies I don't like. However to me it's a Derby. So is Hartlepool and Darlo if we played them
What's the thoughts?

I hoping for a draw on Sunday
