Is Boro a derby?

If you ignore the extra bits added to Sunderland ie Washington etc to make it a city, and the 40k or so lopped off Boro and given to Redcar and cleveland (for some reason) the two places are pretty much the same size. So if we are a small town in Yorkshire you are a small town in Durham. For me being a Boro fan it's the game I most like to win, I don't loose sleep over it though and Leeds come very close in second place. I don't really give to hoots about the maggots.
Nonsense - Sunderland has almost twice the population of Middlesbrough, and if you’re going into catchment areas Tyne and Wear 1.8m Teesside half a million

Put it this way I felt sick for weeks before the Newcastle FA Cup game.

I currently have the same amount of nerves for Sunday as I do when we play Rotherham.

Sunderland itself 168k .(not the added bits of Washington, Houghton etc that are a Distance from Sunderland that got put in the boundaries when city status was given)
population.
Middlesbrough is actually around 175k (a big Chunk of it got put in Redcar and Cleveland to even up the population council boundaries when Cleveland was disbanded.
That’s what he was trying to say,
Sunderland is a bigger club historically and factually that nobody can deny and it has a massive catchment area around it.

It's clearly a derby. A north east derby.

Derby deniers are mad. 2nd closest league club.
I grew up in South Tyneside all my life, never once thought of Boro as Derby mind. Just because they’re in the same league as us, doesn’t mean they’re a derby and I never get nervous about playing them one bit. It’s a one way derby as far as I’m concerned. I get sick at the thought of playing the Mags, I class Boro as any normal game. Each to their own.

You’re forgetting about the population of Stockton. Taking into account Stockton, then you’ll find the catchment areas are very similar.

The area and the tv station has always been known as Tyne/Tees so as the Wear is between them it's classed as a derby especially by those in all other places out of the NE. I think it's our reserve derby.

So you think boro away is the same as Derby away or the town centre when we play them at home is the same as when we play Leicester?

Not a Derby ever.

North East has always been
North of the Tees and south of the Tweed.
ie. Durham and Northumberland.
Sunlun
Mags
Hartlepool
Also included former league clubs Darlington and Gatedhead

Boro is in North Yorkshire
They have York Scarborough and Harrogate.

Sorry but that is complete nonsense - Redcar is not part of Middlesbrough and never has been

There a derby to me because the majority of there fans are snide and local to the area.

Love to discuss football when they're doing well. Nowhere to be seen when they aren't.

More snide than mags Boro fans

Does it matter?

People in redcar are likely to support Middlesbrough its in the catchment area. It's a myth Boro don't have enough fans there just shit fans who glory support

You mention NE as an area and then compare it to a county in North Yorkshire? Why you comparing a geographical area with a county?

The amount of times that people ask if the game is a derby, and the great lengths people go to to tell you its not a derby, should be clear evidence that it’s a derby. It’s not our big derby, but distance and county’s don’t come into it, or else Sunderland RCA, Hartlepool, Shields and Gateshead would be huge games for us.

Why does this bloody question come up every time we play Boro ? Everyone has their own opinion and won't be swayed anyway, pointless. FTM
