Yann M'vila - target or not?

I haven’t seen him kick a ball since he last played for us. He almost certainly won’t be as quick as he was then but you’d have thought he’d do a job for us. Pritchard is on his way out so that’s another experienced head missing from the dressing room as well.

Maybe we’ve looked at him and decided he’s not up to it anymore.

Most of our squad are too young to count towards our squad.

If we had 25 players in our squad that counted you might be right.

I could be wrong but I believe you have to name your squad of players over a certain age by a certain point.

So you can't sign a free agent outside of the window and play them if your squad is too big.

But as most of our players are too young to count. That isn't an issue for us.

If the squad is full, it’s full. But as you say I don’t think that’s a problem we’re blessed with.

It's possible but as for pace, I don't think his position requires it, more so the mental attributes he has in abundance. The club just don't appear to believe a defensive midfielder is required, which is bizarre to me.

Position needed: Yep
Ability Required: Given his performances last season, Yep.
Bridge the gap between foreign-speaking camps: Yep.
Proper experience: 22 French Caps, Yep.
Missing squad attributes (Determination, aggression etc..): Yep
Within Budget: According to the man himself, Yep.

Obviously, I don't have all the information but I cant get my head round it, as it stands.

Did you watch him play in the last season, because I haven’t? I’ve a feeling he’s holding out for a higher level but there don’t appear to be any bites.

On paper he sounds like he’d be a great addition.

I didn't but im happy enough to go with the stats and others' opinions, passes the sense check-in that he was playing with some very decent and high-profile players in Europe as well.

I think in the summer he wanted a move to Saudi, to be honest.

If it sounds too good to be true it usually is. Maybe we're missing something. If he's wanted a move to Saudi then that suggests he wants bit more cash than what we'd be offering.

That kind of falls into the too-good aspect, he wanted a load of cash, that hasn't materialised so he has become available to us, apparently.

Im sure there's plenty that I'm not seeing, there just aren't any transfers that spring to mind as obvious as this one.
 
The one thing that gives me a glimmer of hope for Yann is that he's a free agent and can be signed outside of the window. If we fail to bring in a CDM which pretty much everyone knows is an area we need to strengthen then there's the option to take a look at him at our leisure. Maybe invite him to train with us and see where he's at fitness wise before offering him a short term deal. Really hope we don't totally overlook experience. Balance is key.

Yeah but he also claimed it had nothing to do with financials. Decent chance he was asking for similar money to what it would have cost us to get Moore on loan. I doubt M’villa has the legs to play every week

I guess we'll soon see if he signs for them.
 
To me it should be a complete no brainer to take him on for 6 month. If nothing else for some experience ams leadership that this young squad require, it would also gives an option for one of the positions we are weakest in. His knowledge and understanding of the game would be great for lads like ekwah, ba, auchiche etc. But it seems we aren't wanting to sign anyone over the age of 25 any more even on a free

Why? He was playing top level footy for Olympiakos last season

Also a no brainer for me

Sometimes it feels like speakman and co come on here, test the water for what the fans would like to see, and then do the opposite

Of maybe that’s just me being a conspiracy merchant
