*~*~* Sunderland v Hull match thread *~*~*

100% this I said the same thing. There was one easy move last night we could’ve made to give us more balance that 99% of fans could see. Play Seelt in his proper position and play O’Nien at RB. He’s played there and arguably had some of his best games there so why are we so stubborn playing him at CB. Have to play others out of position just to accommodate it. I like ONien a lot even at CB but when you have a 6’4 CB playing RB expecting him to overlap it’s just lunacy
Seelt looks ok as well so I’d like to see him get time at CB

Looks better than ok imo, looks a real quality find and I’d argue close to Ballards level already too.

Exactly this. I’ve been saying this for months at the match. Seelt looks a great player, and our biggest threat from set pieces. Could have improved the side massively with Hume and onien as fullbacks (in either order) last night and given us that natural width on the right. Could even have gotten away with the cut in winger Pritchard if you’d have done that

We play across or backwards it’s easy to defend against
It's just very predictable; so slow and laborious, backwards and sideways which, as you say, is easy for the opposition to set up against. One of my biggest concern at present is the inability of the Head Coach to effect or positively influence the match and make changes in game from the bench, either tactically or through substitutions. The prospect of two and a half years of watching Beale ball fills me with dred.

Birmingham were brave enough to admit that they had made a mistake in employing Wayne Rooney and terminated his contract before any lasting damage was done, it will be interesting to see whether Speakman is man enough to do likewise. I won't be holding my breath as I don't believe his ego will allow it.

Speakman has made a living off discovering Jude Bellingham. Unfortunately SAFC is destroying any ability his younger brother has by overplaying him. Good coaches can see this, but not the charlatans at SAFC who have vested interests in keeping him in the shop window

Frightening this we were flying and now we look awful. But it’s the Sunderland way.
1 goal between all four. We have players like Roberts, Clarke and Pritchard which is better than most clubs. The strikers are f***ing shit.
It’s embarrassing we haven’t got an even average striker.

Another way to look at that is Pritchard has been asked to do a job for the team on the right and he's completely ignored the coach and done whatever the fuck he wanted.
Another way to look at that is Pritchard is being asked to do a job he’s unsuited to, while a severely out of form and badly in need of a spell out of the side Bellingham, is doing the job he is best suited to.

All on the basis of it working against Preston (questionable whether it actually did) due to once a season, long range goal from a central position.

That doesn't give him the right to ignore the decisions made by the coach and visibly disrupt the team by having a go at the coach and some of his teammates.

The severely out of form 18 year old Bellingham has done any job asked of him. Same for Hume, Huggins, Ba etc.

I've no time for people with attitude problems.

The most ridiculous thing is Clarke is so good he still beat them all a couple of times. If we left him one on one at any point he'd have destroyed them.

We've regressed a number of players this year. Ekwah is getting better positionally but he's now being stopped from running with the ball which is the thing we were all so excited with last year. Neil is playing further forward but that means he's often marked rather than his late runs where he was often free. Jobe is knackered and a a result is so slow in possession. Ba is in and out of the team so much that when he does play he's snatching at everything trying to make an impression. Ballard is so sick of having little midfield protection that he's lost his defensive positioning completely and keeps charging out to win the ball but onien doesn't have the experience to reign him in or cover for him and we don't have a midfielder who can talk to him and help him. And our new centre back is trying to do step over on the right wing as we have none within ten yards of him andonly a tiny striker in the box.
Agree with all this, not sure about Ekwah getting better positionally though, he doesn’t seem to know what position he’s meant to be playing in, but that goes for a few of them.

He was lucky not to be sent off yesterday. The pull of the shirt in the first half should have been a yellow (after the lad had turned him too easily) and then he was booked early in the second half.
They also should have scored first half when his man just walked off his shoulder. He simply isn’t a defensive midfielder.

I agree. Hume and Huggins attitude is exemplary.

Pritchard strikes me as someone who doesn’t suffer fools, and while I’ve little time for his histrionics and I suspect he has a high opinion of himself, he will be able to see what the rest of us can and is probably as sick of it as we are.

At this point I can excuse tactical indiscipline or insubordination even, when the issues are so bleedingly obvious and so serious.

Regards Bellingham, what exactly is being asked of him. Because I have no idea and clearly neither does he.

Agreed. He’s been like a man off since coming back from injury. Playing with him & Jobe is like playing with 9 men.

I like Pritchard he’s a quality player but who’s he got to work with on the pitch? Just Clarke, who’s man marked by 2 players, in most teams that would leave gaps for strikers or anyone pushing forward, unfortunately we are not most teams with that spunkbubble Beale at the reins and every man and his dog has figured out our one and only game plan. So we’re fucked.

That’s it mate! Scary that a ‘world class coach’ can’t see it. Tbf TM was the same which makes me believe the theory of someone else having a say in the team

If someone else was dictating team and tactics, we wouldn't have totally switched pace and approach between managers, and again during the Dodds run. Would have been completely consistent.

If he's going to persist with Ekwah and Neil then could do with switching them around.
