*~*~* Sunderland v Hull match thread *~*~*

Another way to look at that is Pritchard has been asked to do a job for the team on the right and he's completely ignored the coach and done whatever the fuck he wanted.
It crossed my mind that it may be this.

Altgough from being there it didnt seem like there was much issue from the coach with how pritch / others were playing

Playing without any width on the right and having a centre back at right back was beyond baffling like. I just don’t understand it.

I’m all for giving managers a chance but we’re seeing no positives at all so far.
We're about to plummit down the league and I fancy a few players to hand transfer requests in.

Pritch would ofnhad a field day if giving a free role in midfield last night. They were so average they'd never pick up his movement. Even that alone would of probs won us the match

If I was Hull manager last night it would have been simple, stop the left. & as you said, the amount of players they got round him was mad.

Yet we set up to so naturally everything would move that way because we didn’t have anyone on the right hand line.

The most ridiculous thing is Clarke is so good he still beat them all a couple of times. If we left him one on one at any point he'd have destroyed them.

We've regressed a number of players this year. Ekwah is getting better positionally but he's now being stopped from running with the ball which is the thing we were all so excited with last year. Neil is playing further forward but that means he's often marked rather than his late runs where he was often free. Jobe is knackered and a a result is so slow in possession. Ba is in and out of the team so much that when he does play he's snatching at everything trying to make an impression. Ballard is so sick of having little midfield protection that he's lost his defensive positioning completely and keeps charging out to win the ball but onien doesn't have the experience to reign him in or cover for him and we don't have a midfielder who can talk to him and help him. And our new centre back is trying to do step over on the right wing as we have none within ten yards of him andonly a tiny striker in the box.

its fairly obvious we played
-1-
121-
-11-
1111
-1-

jobe an pritchard were in the same space so they could throw the kitchen sink at Clarke without worrying about the right. I don't give a fuck which does 60m at AM until we can blood Rigg but if Pritch was told to play right wing he should of played right wing. Beales fault mind. Iirc his mate Gerrard did the same with Lampard and cost us a world cup.

The main problem was obvious at 7pm. We’d more or less abandoned the right side. A centre half right back, who, to be fair to him will defend adequately, but won’t get up the pitch. A central midfielder/no.10 on the right who will want to come inside & rarely be on the line.

Left side you’ve got Clarke who teams double up on regardless, but now as you don’t have a right hand side threat it’s easier to concentrate on that area to nullify. Then you’re left with the central options in a team that has struggled all season to create & get forward without using the wingers.

Then you’ve got Bellingham, who I think was fantastic early doors, looking slow & cumbersome physically, the same way Callum Doyle did at this point after we played him every minute, but he also looks like he’s lost any confidence, swagger, dominance because of it too. He’s been managed terribly, but even Mowbray didn’t used to leave him on the pitch for 90mins. He’s went from being a 17yr old I couldn’t believe looked so good, psychically against blokes, to an 18yr old who looks like a passenger & doesn’t quite know where he fits. That’s down to our management if him, not the player.

Worrying thing is, I think these things are common sense & it feels like the staff are blind to it.

I always said we have to give Beale a chance, but fuck me, he’s not helping himself.
Bellingham plays irrespective of how bad he is because he’s Speakman’s cash cow.

This sums it up. Shite

Thanks for sharing this. As the OP has said and others have alluded to, there were several problems:

-The balance in both wide areas, with players out of position
-Ekwah playing a role unsuited to him, which I really hope hasn't gone unnoticed
-Players playing who are passengers and it's clear to everyone they need taking out
-Completely passive build up and approach play, allowing the opposition to easily regroup and nullify our threat
-Body language of the players

I could go on.
What was the tactics like?

Win between the boxes, who cares what happens inside them.

It feels like an explanation, cos I can’t think of a good reason why he’s still on the pitch all match, but I can’t agree, because even a blind man can see we’re doing the lad more harm than good right now. All he’s doing is getting games started statistics up. Any scout will not be impressed in what they watch right now.

I think it’s a bit too tin hatty to say this is all revolving around Bellingham being sold for megabucks when common sense would say having him in & around the team playing less minutes will see him develop better for a year or two’s time.

Problem with SAFC since December though is, any common sense, on & off the pitch seems to have left the building.

If Ekwah is playing there so deep which I don’t believe he needs to you have 4 defenders that can pass the ball to a midfielder, onien may as well play left back, as he can use both feet and get crosses in and get up and down and is good for a goal , and play seetd centre back . It’s nuts
