Drinking in Sunderland City Centre - restored

The Borough disagrees

Don't think ya could of timed that any worse.

Stonegate pubs just announced they're having to go to the bank and re-negotiage their 2.5 mil debt. They have the Chesters also which is another big one. Board Inn near Doxy also.

Grants end for the pub industry starting Good Friday so just going to get worse unfortunately. Tories have done fuck all and just letting the industry decay.

If they aren't making money out of the Board inn then they are the problem like.

Hull home game will increase numbers a little but if its a cold night that'll effect it. Once past pay day things will improve a bit, lighter nights on the way too :)

the game being a friday night 8pm kick off instead of saturday 3pm must cost the pub trade £10,000s in sunderland this weekend

anyone with kids in tow can't really get out

best you might get is an hour or two pre match and one hour after the game. plus a lower attendance with it being friday night.

compare that to normal saturday game when its easy enough to go out at 12.00 and come home at 8pm even with kids in tow.

Was thinking you may get a few stopping out to drown sorrows :)

📢📢ANNOUNCEMENT📢📢

Yates Sunderland
Join Us For Our Last Weekend
Saturday 20th January will be our final day of trade as a Yates Brand.

After nearly 3years, my time as manager of Yates Sunderland has come to an end within the Stonegate Managed Role.
I've had the privilege of working with the best team and getting to know some brilliant customers, hence why I made the decision to take over the site as an operator along with Ryan and Craft Union.
The site will be closed from Sunday 21st for 10days while Craft Union transform the site from the Yates brand and name to...The Barge & Barrel.
Moving from Proper Pub format to Craft Union means we will no longer sell food and will be a wet led site upon reopening at the end of January.
We will update you on progress of the site and our reopening date on our Facebook page over the following days.
We hope to see you all for our final weekend here at Yates Sunderland...and again when we reopen as The Barge and Barrel.
We would like to Thank you all for your support during our time at @Yates Sunderland,
Ange, Ryan and the team look forward to seeing you all soon with our new venture with Craft Union at The Barge & Barrel.
🍻👋🫂❤️🤩

A few years back food was trumpeted as the saviour of pubs.

It wasn't that long ago that certain posters on here were absolutely insistent that pubs were finished.

Since Covid, they seem to have had a bit of a revival. Probably due to people realising what they were missing when they couldn't go out during the Covid lockdowns.
