Longship pub closed in Hebburn due to fighting- mags got a hiding.

Urinals were a stone trough out the back with a corrugated plastic roof. Brilliant pub

Is the Long bar (Royal Oak) still open?
Quite few Hebb'n & Jarra bars' "toilets" were the same, as for the Long Bar the big front window showed signs of it still being a bar but the lack of people in had me wondering, it was afternoon though so? There was definitely no aggressive looking bloke at the end of, or behind, the bar like former 70s times

Me mates mam and dad had the Queens Arms when I started school with him in about 1977. Remember going to his Birthday party there about 1980 and we watched the Blues Brothers on his video recorder. They sold the pub about 1983.
In the "dark side" of Jarrow as my Father in Law called it. He was a Jarrow man that knew the area very well before anyone comments. It's apparently a doss-house now
Would it be the same bloke who had the Simonside Arms? (Think it is but not sure he won the cup)
Horswill had the Boldon Lad, Buckley had the Sima.
Could have been Cavalier club?
That was down there but that came a bit later in the same premises.

Aye I was thinking of Alan Foggon who played for us, Boro and the mags. Knew Horswill had the Lad like

I'd not class Queens as the Darkside mind, unless Queens arms is different to the boozer known as Queens. Darkside was round Abbey Drive, Stothard Street, St Pauls Road, Harold Street etc

My Jarra wife has just educated me on where the "dark side" began, High Street apparently.

I did spend time arounnd there with a mate that lived there and some of it was quite "dark" when you passed through.

Yeah I'd say High Street and the couple of streets behind backing up to St Bedes then everything inside that ugly red wall, some of which isn't there now  few of my school friends lived around there, was canny rough

Yeah, I'd have said it starts at High Street

The red wall had a lovely narrow opening with a metal barrier a yard away mind. Whether that was to keep people in or out I still don't know.

Why are there no pubs in Jarra between the Prince and the Town Centre (and never have been). Nelson is Monkton so doesn't count.

I think I know why, but interested to see if anyone can confirm my thoughts

Good question, not sure, there is/was a few clubs but no pubs, between York Avenue and Bede Burn Road they could do with one

Possibly because most bars were in areas where there was work. Like the shipyard beer corridor along the river, where blokes came out of work straight into a bar. N Shields was the same.
