Sunderland railway station.

How did you get that from my post?

What makes you think that this council which has secured funding time and again in recent years won’t secure funding?

It was a while back but I remember Councillor Miller saying that the new North End of the station (where Poundland is) would serve the new business/eye infirmary etc area around St Marys Way presumably so that visitors wouldn't emerge from the dark satanic platforms into the light of a back-lane - I think they might already have the financial backing.

I’m asking ‘what is the south entrance also going to have?’ Help me.

Trampolines? A spar? An e-bike rental facility? Luggage storage? A build-a-bear workshop? Business facilities, such as charging points and printers?

Are any of those going in?
Dunno.Why?

Ha'way mate it’s a lot better than the Lego building we had last time, actually looks like a train station not a smack heads shoot up place. Theirs places to rent which will probably get decent prime shops there.
Oh it is better, but it’s the absolute bare minimum and at least twenty years too late. 👍

I agree it’s late, and those who made the decisions years ago to hold things back it’s on them, I’m not a fan of nexus the Govenment or miller but I think this has went the right way. I mean it leads to one of the worst streets in the town which needs help!

I know they were doing feasibility studies. (That’s what the funding was for, but the full project)

If, and it’s a bit if, the north end is rebuilt it is absolutely ESSENTIAL that such work includes a doubling of actual usable platform capacity to separate metro and rail.

It wouldn’t be hugely expensive given that it would re-opening previous facilities. (Just to be clear though, it wouldn’t be a quick or a cheap job. Everything involving rail is expensive.

The f**king of Sunderland's rail system started with the Germans and has been continued by all governments since.
Nexus are Newcastle based and have no real interest in Sunderland, I was on the metro yesterday and there were 20 minute gaps between trains at crucial times when people were travelling to and from the game. Coincidence, f**king mags😉!!!
Good thing about future investment is that the new North East combined authority will have a lot of money for transport investment and it is much more likely that the north entrance and platform changes will come, along with getting the metro to Washy and a chord for direct metros from Sunderland to South Shields.
Nexus will not be able to block anything in future.

There is also a realistic chance of some Trans Pennine trains to/from the north west being rerouted along the Durham coast and therefore serving Sunderland.

A better subterranean environment at the station is important but the current set up will not stop the studios coming to the Wear or any other major investment planned or ongoing.

However, the new entrance is wonderful compared to what it has replaced, which was a hovel.

Just accept it as phase one and embrace it.
I personally feel that Nexus are shite and need to be replaced by the combined authority or at least held to account more. If there are any SLAs they’re missing them and there should be financial penalties. As it is they’ve always got their hand out and offer little in return. At the very least they could fix the 16 trains that have turned into air fryers in the last 3 years.

All of that is aside from the great new train station entrance and the ambitious plans.

They own the building now mate…don’t know whether they have secured investment from network rail or the government but they’re well on the way.

Nexus ain’t fit for purpose regarding any of the NE transport.

I’m pleased to see the station entrance looking better (although I think it’s a long way short of ‘great’ mind - it’s basic and functional).

Whoever was involved in the colour scheme wants sacked though 🤣

Nexus take the piss out of Sunderland and laugh at us. I doubt any regional replacement will be any better.

It’s a shell mate. They’ll get more seating in, a couple of vendors and some information screens. It wouldn’t surprise me if they get some lockers in but e-bikes may be a bit much. The north entrance will have a lot more.

Will it separate metro and rail?

That’s literally the only thing I care about.
