How come so few people turn up for midweek games?

If you believe the numbers given and if you were at the SoL last night you would know there wasn't anywhere near 37k there. Elland Road looked full on the highlights which suggests they gave a more accurate actual crowd number than we did.
 
I missed game last night as my flight back from Paris was delayed

Didn’t get home until after 8.15

Loads work away from NE through the week
 
It was definitely one of those nights when you think why do I bother with this?
About 12 of us overall on a normal match day in our group and we are lucky if we get 5 on a midweek game and one time I was there on my own :lol:

A few live out of the North East (York) and others work of have child care responsibilities etc. I am lucky as am office based and the office is in Sunderland so I just go straight from work but its a very long day and I don't particularly enjoy the midweek games. Left the house at 8am yesterday morning and got home at 11pm.

Since nearly losing my toes through frostbite at a New Years day game a few years ago I now refuse to go when the weather is like this. It's just too cold to be sitting on a cold plastic seat in 0° for 2 hours. I imagine alot of people feel the same, especially with families and bairns.

What's worse, we drew 1-1 that day with Everton (or Villa). Nearly lost my toes for a draw. Screw that.
 
We have a fair few of our group who simply don't bother on night games, I find it odd. I took the car last night for the first time in years as I didn't want to drink much. Left at full time, got back to the Sunniside car park about 10 mins after that, took me 5 mins to get out of the car park (which was free) and was back in Teesside and dropped the lads off by 11, up at 6 for work today. I personally don't see why the midweek games are a hassle, I quite enjoy them (more so when we win) and whether it's using the train or the car I never have to leave early.

Our backing at home is good in numbers only. The atmosphere largely is very poor every game at home. People don't want to admit it for some reason, but even those who can actually be bothered to make an atmosphere in the South Stand will probably admit last night was very very hard to get anything going.

It was utterly abysmal last night.

It's been piss poor all season to date.

Boro was flat from kick off before things even started to go west.

Hard to get angry at every away crowd singing about it being a library when it is.

And it’s like that in almost every ground in the country. Football has changed - people don’t stand anymore and there are a lot more families attend.

People haven't stood at home games for the best part of 30 years and I don't recall SOL atmospheres being anywhere this bad 10 or 20 year ago.

Disagree completely. Plenty of games I've watched on TV lately have had a great atmosphere. Most better than the SoL. The home atmosphere has been getting worse season on season since we dropped out of the PL, and hasn't improved much at all since we got out of League One.

You’ve obviously forgotten about the Macarthy promotion year when we were getting crowds of 20 odd thousand and the atmosphere was dead
 
Same at our place, empty seats around me last night all season ticket holders, dunno whether its work, kids school next day or the bloody freezing weather.
There were definately less than when you lot came down, but the crowd figures say otherwise, so its got be season ticket holders giving it a swerve
