Russell Martin has Ross Stewart as his main target **Transfer confirmed **

We needed recruits in summer and werent in a position to wait for him tbh. It was a no brainer to part ways with him

I agree it was a no brainier given the situation but to say the money was used to fund new recruits in the summer is incorrect, I would say.

We had already agreed a fee for Rusyn about a week or two before we sold Stewart, so the money must have already been there for him. Burstow was only a loan and we only paid nominal fees for Pembele and Aouchiche if reports are to be believed, so the Stewart money should by and large be untouched as yet.

There wouldn't have been a bigger money move than what we got, he'd have had even less of his contract remaining and his stock would be significantly less (if he doesn't come back from injury all guns blazing).

Helluva sale was the Ross deal, best but of outgoing business we've done since the fee for McNair
Big money for him, not us.

Not sure on the finer details but wages / difficulty of the situation/ us needing several attackers asap. The deal helped us move forward. Even if your statement is accurate its 10mil towards january recruitment.

Was it £10 million up front? Wouldn't be surprised if it's based on appearances for Southampton.
This article says £10m, but then says Ross County are due 15% and will receive £1.2m.

Bit of a contradiction, but I suspect that means the initial fee was £8m as 15% is £1.2m. Leaves us £6.8m initially with potential add ons to come. Not sure if Ross County get a slice of those too.

...could have him on a free within half a season...

doesn't always work out like that though does it?

we sacked off m'vila because 'we can just get him on a free later' and i think we all know know that would have been the best 7m we could have spent.

10m for stewart was a great deal for us, and it may still turn out to be a great deal for them anarl.

It was worth the risk for them, they'd sold about £100m worth of players and received £50m in parachute payments. But £10m for 5/6 months of any player is too much for us to turn down, with our strategy.

yep entirely agree. was a shame we couldn't get a new deal thrashed out but it was always going to come down to getting a good deal if not, and we absolutely excelled
