Russell Martin has Ross Stewart as his main target **Transfer confirmed **

Thing is if we'd kept him he'd have been back even later as he'd have been ultra cautious about risking a recurrence affecting a big money move in the summer
There wouldn't have been a bigger money move than what we got, he'd have had even less of his contract remaining and his stock would be significantly less (if he doesn't come back from injury all guns blazing).

Helluva sale was the Ross deal, best but of outgoing business we've done since the fee for McNair

Southampton have always used their academy system incredibly well. Stewart may prove to be an excellent signing for them, but it does smack slightly of tearing everything up in order to chase promotion.

I would not disagree. Purely from a business perspective, shelling out 10m on a forward with 13 Championship appearances to his name at the age of 27, not fully fit and unlikely to be for 3 months from the date which they signed him and could have him on a free within half a season of his return from injury is madness

Even if he does well for them, no sell on value add as he will be 30 by the time of his next move, give or take

Its the best bit of business we have done under new regime. 10mill for a potential crock (if injury reoccurs). Phenomenal that.

Could return next week, but more than likely 2 weeks time according to Martin. That'll be about 6 weeks after signing him

Next international break is almost the end of November. Then you're talking minutes management for quite a while and at that point about halfway through the season before he's in a position to start games.

No matter what happens for him at Southampton, it would have been complete and utter stupidity for SAFC not to sell for £10m when he would have left for free in the summer and by the time he is fit enough to play games again would have missed, at a very minimum, 53 of our last 66 games.

That's a best case scenario and dependent on if he even does start making appearances after the next international break!

Yep. Would be the equivalent of us paying £10M for half a season.
Was absolutely correct decision to sell and we got more than a reasonable fee.

I think its a cracking deal in isolation, for us.

Obviously weve signed 4 strikers and still look nowhere near replacing him but theres plenty time for one or two of the new lads to start firing.

Class deal but in typical Sunderland fashion i could see him kicking us out of the play offs.

at the moment most of those strikers have contributed more than stewrat would have this season..because they have played minutes on the pitch..

Southampton don’t have that much faith that Stewart is a long term solution for them because he only signed a 3 year deal.
