There wouldn't have been a bigger money move than what we got, he'd have had even less of his contract remaining and his stock would be significantly less (if he doesn't come back from injury all guns blazing).Thing is if we'd kept him he'd have been back even later as he'd have been ultra cautious about risking a recurrence affecting a big money move in the summer
Southampton have always used their academy system incredibly well. Stewart may prove to be an excellent signing for them, but it does smack slightly of tearing everything up in order to chase promotion.

Helluva sale was the Ross deal, best but of outgoing business we've done since the fee for McNair
Could return next week, but more than likely 2 weeks time according to Martin. That'll be about 6 weeks after signing him
18th November, so we have Swansea, Birmingham and then a 2 week break till PlymouthRussel Martin said he's be ready for the next match if not the one after. There's not a not another international break is there ffs
Amazed we got 10m for him especially as Southampton have 2 decent forwards at Championship level. Surely just wait until January and get him on a free pre contract
Personally, I think we've pulled their pants down. He was good for us, but this was a superb deal.
And give us the chance to kick him? I doubt it.u21s play each other next Friday, he might play that
Yep. Would be the equivalent of us paying £10M for half a season.Next international break is almost the end of November. Then you're talking minutes management for quite a while and at that point about halfway through the season before he's in a position to start games.
No matter what happens for him at Southampton, it would have been complete and utter stupidity for SAFC not to sell for £10m when he would have left for free in the summer and by the time he is fit enough to play games again would have missed, at a very minimum, 53 of our last 66 games.
That's a best case scenario and dependent on if he even does start making appearances after the next international break!

Sounds like he's back just before the break then according to their manager18th November, so we have Swansea, Birmingham and then a 2 week break till Plymouth
They wouldn’t have been able to sign him on a pre contract in January
at the moment most of those strikers have contributed more than stewrat would have this season..because they have played minutes on the pitch..I think its a cracking deal in isolation, for us.
Obviously weve signed 4 strikers and still look nowhere near replacing him but theres plenty time for one or two of the new lads to start firing.
Class deal but in typical Sunderland fashion i could see him kicking us out of the play offs.
We needed recruits in summer and werent in a position to wait for him tbh. It was a no brainer to part ways with himat the moment most of those strikers have contributed more than stewrat would have this season..because they have played minutes on the pitch..
