ODI World Cup

Yeah absolutely spot on imo.

The confusion over selection has been astounding imo.

The side we picked for South Africa amazed me and showed the panic and lack of clarity of thought.

Is that down to Mott, Buttler or both.

No idea tbh
Yeh,top and bottom is totally inept leadership both on and off the field. The biggest worry however is how we recover. ECB has now bankrupt cricket through squandering money on the folly of the 16.4 and the recently awarded central contracts to a majority of hasbeens.
the head,Key, is blatantly lying in his justification of the folly. Independent research proved it's haemorrhaging money whilst Test cricket is by far the major revenue stream in both gate receipts, and TV revenue, and consequently sponsorship.
Persisting with the 16.4 will be the death knoll of cricket as we purist know it.

I meant deep as in talent in the top 6
Yeah they have really hit form in a major way.

Completely unfancied by everyone before this world cup.

Most won't be there in 2027 so it's a now or never for them. Got to make the most of this purple patch if South Africa ever going to win a world cup.

Hard to compare ODI eras. Were not the best side ever when the Aussies won 3 world cups on the trot and won 21 games in a row.

But we revolutionised the game in a way nobody else played it. Then arrogantly discarded that success. Blaming the schedule etc.(look how many ODIs they used to play)

We've won 32 percent of our games when you take our Ireland/Netherlands. Disgraceful for the champions that claim to the best.
I've said it before but its one thing to win an ODI world cup in your own country and quite another to perform well in India. We havent even come close.
Is this going to be the close game?

Hendricks and Rabada miss out for SA. The SA batting in particular looks so deep
I think they'll easily beat pakistan based on the form of both

My post was more about the confusion selection policy in this tournament especially the South Africa game, going totally away from previous policies.

Was really surprised that Ali, Livingstone, Curran and Woakes were all dropped for that game.

It smacked of panicking to me

Or maybe it's just a case of playing on slow spinning wickets in India which we have never handled in all the time of Cricket in India.

Maybe the unbearable heat and humidity has knocked them for 6. Unbearable conditions to play in.

But ok blame the hundred.

A lot simpler reasons to be honest.

Yes panic but that was inevitable given abject leadership.Morgan should surely have been given overall control.I'm surprised that Buttler hasn't acquired any leadership qualities having been Morgan's understudy for so long.
Captained the side really well last year and won a World Cup. This tournament has been a disaster and he might be removed from captaincy but not completely continuing like Morgan did after 2015 and rebuilding the side

Yeah me too, looked to be very close and very much same principles.

It’s not the fact it has gone wrong obviously, it’s that it has gone spectacularly wrong.

I stand to be corrected, but the side we put out yesterday, bats very deep and good players in theory.

11/4 second favorites they were for this tournament, backing up that view.

Soo disappointing.

Can't help but not have sympathy for Buttler who is clearly a genuine guy. .https://www.thecricketer.com/Topics/england-premium/jos_buttler_believe_man_to_lead_england.html
