Southgate on Henderson

Has he ever sounded bright ?
He became the mouthpiece and chief poster boy of the Premier League because :-
1. He was one of few English captains in the League.
2. Harry Maquire seems and even sounded thicker.
3. He acknowledged the NHS and seemed to support LGBT rights.
4. He played for one of the top teams i.e. not Palace, Brentford or Fulham.
He has always came across well you have to admit that . Him and Harry Kane would have bet life savings on the last two people who would go there ( based on knowing them solely via the media granted 😂)

Sorry mate. Cannot agree.
Don't think he has ever come across really well.
He is a typical, basic British footballer who has had an easy ride from the British media, because of the points I mentioned.
As a Welshman, I also think Gareth Bale was never seriously questioned by the UK media.
Recently, the only UK player I think who has been given a hard time by the UK media is Harry McQuire.
Which may be understandable as he was captain of MUFC and is seldom a starter for them...

Will have to agree to disagree there was a video Liverpool done about his upbringing with his dad about 5 mins long and it was fantastic , made you proud he was from the city and couldn’t ask for a better ambassador imo. Quite sad how it’s turned out not that he will care too much

Henderson and Southgate’s comments suggest they are intellectually dumb. Their pathetic rhetoric trying to defend their corners is actually offensive in essence. Self righteous Henderson chose his money laden path to play football in a murderous state and needs to accept the justified criticism that comes his way. Southgate, as England manager, should be ashamed of his response.
It's total hypocrisy.

If you maintain- which I do, which Henderson and Southgate seemed to in their other comments about other issues- that sport is about more than just what happens on the field, that it has power to change bigger things and be about more than itself, you cant then turn around and say that when people treat footballers for what they've done off the pitch "oh what's thr problem? Look at all the football stuff he's done, why do people care about this other stuff he's said and done about these issues?"

If Henderson is serious about being an ally or champion for LGBT rights, but not serious about his actions around that being up to scrutiny or accountability
, then it was simply just a case of him wanting to enjoy those things when it suited him, ie it was never really about LGBT rights at all, just him looking good

I think at heart that's true.

But when push came to shove, he chose money over doing the right thing. In which case, your intentions count for fuck all if they don't inform your actual behaviour when push comes to shove. Its easy to think the right thing.
