The mags are claiming Durham CC now

No. Its just a discussion on whether this song is local though. Mentioning Scotswood Road and places in Newcastle doesn't seem appropriate for a durham anthem according to me and loads others. It's no big deal though

Looking back, it seems he didn't. Sorry. Cavemen then. It's just the same and no big deal, just seems funny getting this upset about nothing
I am totally perplexed with your wording??

Appropriate???

They not committing a crime or doing anything wrong or inappropriate.

They simply singing a song

I know. Is the word appropriate only used when a crime is committed like? Its a sensible choice of wording, nothing more, nothing less

I don't watch sunderland ladies, but I look out for their results, and would care if after a game they sang a totally inappropriate song.Likewise aberdeen.I know I have upset the cricket snobs on here enough for them to have a little cry and get all sweary though, so I won't upset yous anymore
Upset who?

To avoid doubt, we're all laughing at your parochial attitude to a song and a team you don't watch.

The song annoys you, we don't care.

We going nowhere and just going round in circles so think we need to leave it.

You whole way of thinking and your logic throughout this thread is totally opposite and alien to the way I look at it.

But guess I have to respect that you have a point of view and you think differently.

Love that you keep repeating this line, you're trying so hard.

You're all over the place son. So many posts on this thread, your insecurity over a song is superb.
This thread seems to have degenerated into a 'who cares the least' argument, instead of discussing the perfectly valid discussion of why is a famous Newcastle folk song being used as a Durham ccc anthem? And why are durham ccc supporters so accepting about the newcastlefication of their club?

I suppose if you're insecure and not really invested in the club you could let your parochial, one eyed view upset you.

The rest of us are just getting on with it. We'll continue to support the county and look forward to hearing lads belting out their anthem after every victory.

That’s fair enough.

Good for you!

There’s a fair bit of what sounds like members snobbery in amongst that mind.
It's not snobbery at all. It's like me slagging off a sports club in Durham.... Say Durham Ladies football team for example... They won't give a shiny shit what I say critical about them and rightly so... I contribute nothing to their club.
Aye.

I think with some people they seem incapable of separating football from cricket
It's the non attenders unable to do that, who basically don't give a toss about Durham CCC, just football tribalism kicking in, maybe too much sun this week
No mate I think you should keep on banging your bats and singing about Newcastle landmarks .
I do hope so, it means we are winning.

And there is the point of difference. Most Sunderland folk will see that as being a step too far . But I hope you continue to have great days at the cricket

I doubt they're (folk of Sunderland) bothered. Never hear any issues about it on the NEPL circuit and certainly never hear any issues about it at the ground (never once have I seen anyone challenge a player over it and this season has been a great time to do that). It's the football tribalism kicking in which to be fair some turn up for the T20 games (fair to say that as many took advantage of the £1 tickets this year Safc offer), get pissed, spend a fortune and go home. Win win for the club financially, they can't please everyone but I know they won't be the slightest bit arsed about people who don't care for cricket getting upset over a song. The cricket club and Sunderland AFC have a very good business partnership and have done for decades. I've got to know some wonderful people from the cricket, some support different football teams, some live in Gateshead, CLS, Wallsend, Sunderland, Berwick, Durham for example all different parts of the region the club represent and never once in all the years I've been going have they said "oh they're singing that song again,........". It's literally people who don't ever attend who get "upset" about this song, it beggars belief why and even more so "why now" as the club have sang this song for decades including Paul Collingwood. Durham Cricket club have always had a strong following from Sunderland and will continue to do so as those people aren't arsed about a song.

Only if they small minded and childish!!

I genuinely don’t think it matters one jot whether they sing a song, about Liverpool, London, Newcastle, Sunderland or whatever etc etc

It’s just a song they obviously like singing after winning a game of sport, people making more of it than that I find totally balmy and immature

We did that for a number of pages and gave various explanations as to why we just aren’t that arsed, but you and those who are against it couldn’t accept it.

That’s up to you, but the debate ended a few pages ago.

Given the number of Sunderland supporters I know who follow Durham and those I see at the ground on matchdays with either Sunderland gear on or Sunderland tattoos they’re clearly not arsed.

It seems the only ones complaining about it here are those who don’t give a toss about Durham cricket in any case.

What was the explanation as to why that Newcastle folk song is sung at Durham. Would be interesting to know who started it and why?

And to repeat that’s fine . But again for reference there are lots of people ( and I can vaguely reference as well ) who won’t sing about Newcastle. It’s not small minded or immature it’s about sport and tribalism . I think it may be similar to singing about the ECB and that
