The mags are claiming Durham CC now

You must be a bit deaf if you have heard it since the 80s? I only started going in 1996 and have heard it often until the late 00s

I don't think anyone is suggesting anything other than the sunderland aces version?
Well the argument seemed to be 'we sing it as well'. We don't though. Not the Scotswood Road version sang gustily there by the Durham CCC which is a dyed in the wool Newcastle United anthem. At least in recent times. Maybe not in the 50s or 60s.....

Anyway that's my last word on the subject. Some very sensitive souls in here seem to be getting quite upset by the whole thing so I apologise for any upset caused by the comment above ;)

Not in recent times...one that has faded away....but irrelevant really. The version sang by Durham CC is probably the most recognisable Newcastle United football anthem there is. Inevitable when that goes viral people will draw conclusions.
This is my concern, unless you are an actual Durham CC fan, anyone else who watches that will come to the conclusion that Durham CC support the mags.

I wouldn't sing that song and I wouldn't expect any other safc fans would either. I know it's written by a Durham lad and is talking about the county in general but it is THE footy anthem of the mags and for that reason alone I wouldn't expect the Durham CC team to sing it either.

Its mainly because the same thread is posted every single time durham win a game going back many years and we're all bored of it.

This one being on pf/smb first just means its blown on way longer than the usual ones that just start on the cricket forum

would never have happened under Paul Collingwoods watch

Even though it's a well recognised, perhaps the recognised, Newcastle United football anthem.

Which was written well before they even existed.

As I’ve said in an earlier post, this is all pointless and tedious. Better be prepared for more of it when Durham win the league I suppose.

Maybe people should put their efforts into supporting our team who are performing magnificently instead of trotting all this out for the umpteenth time? Just a thought, like.

What has Scotswood road got to do with durham?

Have you not got to gan alang it to get onto the A1 to gan to Durham old days

Not sure if you genuinely don't know but this is the old A1 route until not too long ago:
Seaton Burn - Gosforth - Northumberland Street - Tyne Bridge - Gateshead High Street - Low Fell - Birtley - Chester Le Street - Durham (Neville's Cross)

It's basically the B1318 / A167 in today's number.

The A1 didn't go anywhere near Scotswood Road until 1990.

Don't think so. Singing about Scotswood Road and Blaydon hardly seems appropriate for a durham anthem. I know Blaydon 'was' in Durham, but I bet next to nobody associates Blaydon with durham.

Please read the umpteen earlier threads on this topic and you will be enlightened 😁

I sense that you may be a latecomer to this pointless debate.

Canny geography lesson right there👍

Aye, I am. Just don't see what Blaydon and Scotswood Road have to do with a durham team that plays in Chester le street
The stark, bald truth.
One of these where I'm genuinely scratching my head at how some on here have bought this. And a football song. That as long as Durham CCC has been a first class county (1992) has been unequivocally associated with Newcastle United Football Club.
