Boro thread

Yeah, totally agree.
Surely the close season is plenty time to sort squads out, and to me the window should close just before the start of new season.

At least then clubs know what they've got as the season starts, and also know they aren't gonna lose anyone in the first weeks of the season

Thought you were a Hartlepoolian !
Seasons start on different dates all ower the world.

Spot on mate hackney is a class act local lad. But it’s effectively ruled out us going for promotion. The core of the side has been ripped apart and we will not find another archer and a player who will have a season like Akpom. We will probably be around 16th/17th
Crikey. Chin up. I think you'll be fine. As will we.

Said it on another thread, but Boro's numbers were very good under Wilder and suggested results would turn for them sooner rather than later.

That's exactly what happened, but as Carrick had just come in, all the credit went to him despite the numbers showing it would happen regardless.

Of course that was dismissed by the usual suspects and Carrick instead was anointed as the second coming of Fergie.

Carrick did nothing special last season. He reached the playoffs with a playoff level squad who were posting playoff level numbers and had a playoff level wage bill
Made this point a lot last season, although not quite as well. Totally agree.

Also when the going got tough and they were within reach of Sheff Utd and then the end of season and play offs, they went off the boil

He might turn out to be a good manager but I don’t think we have the evidence to prove it yet

If you look at their last big win in the Championship , Norwich at home in April , they have lost ( in order of effectiveness)

Akpom
Archer
Ramsey
Giles
Steffan
That is going to have a hell of an effect on a team.
Equivalent of us losing Diallo, Roberts, Clarke Cirkin and Patto.
The poster who made the point about loans is 100% correct. I would also hazard that the fact 4 of those being on loan led to their bad tail off at the end , as players prepared to go back to their parent clubs.
The player they have I really like is Hackney , I also think Lenighan and McGree are top 6 players.
Again , the policy of rip it up and start again this year means they are going to be playing catch up.
How many goals do those lost players take out of their team , 50 + ? That’s a lot to replace.
They weren’t theirs to lose in the first place so they haven’t really lost any players at all, they chose to sell Chubby.

How you managing now without your better players 🤷
Not as well as I'd like but not as badly as results suggest.

The defence is a shambles which really is nothing to do with players we've lost but the attack seems to be coming together. We could easily have won at West Brom on Saturday with a bit of luck and a lot less calamitous defending because we look like scoring again - we didn't at the start of the season.

Do I think we'll get promoted this season? Very likely not.

Do I think we'll start picking up points soon? Very likely yes.

They have a much better squad than ours according to FMTTM yesterday -Roberts is crap and Agent Mowbray is doing a great job
Have to agree with them -Agent Mowbray is doing a fantastic job !
