When we lost a couple of gameswhen did MurtonBurk come back?
Wooooa! Easy Tiger. I think he's been class for us in the lower leagues and if he get's back to his best i believe he could do a job in the prem, but you can't compare him to them 2 man! Add in the fact his injury record and contract situation, getting 10 million is miles more than we got when both Philips and Defoe left combinedHe’s a natural goalscorer up there with Kevin Phillips and Jermaine Defoe and yet we are going to allow him to leave to join a supposed competitor. I say supposed because if we are doing business like this and making such a little attempt to keep quality footballers like Ross Stewart, there are clearly no immediate ambitions to get back to the premier league. That’s fair enough, we are at least nailing our colours to the mast with this transaction and I suppose expectations are being managed accordingly.
I've mentioned that on threads where people are pointing out Coventry and Boro spending cash. Both sold last season's top scorer and in Coventry's case they're about £35m up with selling Hamer too.If we sold Clarke, Ballard and Ekwah to fund transfers people would be up in arms, where do they think the money is supposed to come from?
What's the crack with taking the piss out of people wanting the club run properly? Wigan fans got plenty of stick for burying their heads while their club loaded themselves with big contracts to get out of League One. We were right in the shit even in the Premier League having to rely on the owner's pockets.
Just as fans have every right to question why their club isn't spending money, they've every right to question whether their club can spend money. It's no less valid just because you don't like the answer.
Good post TBH. I want us to sign the players and pay the fees needed , but no one has got their fingers burnt in the past as much as us (Apart from clubs in administration, but I mean we as fans have seen the shit show paying big wages doesn't get you a player or team that give a toss). What's the crack with taking the piss out of people wanting the club run properly? A more proven player alongside aye. Not even at championship level.
Even a regular proven goalscorer from abroad will fit the bill imo.
Gyokeres was also in the last year of his deal I think, but wasn’t coming back from a serious injury.I thought Ross was just as good as Gyokeres, and I won’t say better to avoid bias.
They got £20.5 for Gyokeres - but I don’t know his contract situation and I doubt he was injured.
I’m not saying he’s as good, but in my lifetime I’d probably put the likes of SKP, JD, Marco and Stewart as the most natural finishers for the club. Players you’d have total confidence in putting the ball in the net. Probably a few I’ve missed.Wooooa! Easy Tiger. Premier league is the only place a club with our set up will be sustainable, unless you strip everything off field back, keep transfer fees and wages down and start selling to cover costs. Which won't get promotion.Apparently the ownership have an ambition to be sustainable.
I think I’d add gatesy to that list, not as lethal as skp but knew how to score goals.I’m not saying he’s as good, but in my lifetime I’d probably put the likes of SKP, JD, Marco and Stewart as the most natural finishers for the club. The only other option is to gamble and if it doesn't pay off , you're then screwed for a few seasons minimum. How many clubs have gambled and are now in troublePremier league is the only place a club with our set up will be sustainable, unless you strip everything off field back, keep transfer fees and wages down and start selling to cover costs. They don’t think they are good offers though that’s the issue . We keep briefing they are likeYou say little attempt but he and his agent have supposedly turned down good contract offers from safc in the past.
Mass gamble wasnt needed mate just a CF ,we can cover most other positions. The only other option is to gamble and if it doesn't pay off , you're then screwed for a few seasons minimum. How many clubs have gambled and are now in trouble
I get that, but he’s had the best part of a year to do that. Its thurdsday today man, have faith in Kyrilsy he will splash the cash.
Is one of the options not to say for example just offer Stewart championship striker wages and keep him ?Good post TBH. I want us to sign the players and pay the fees needed , but no one has got their fingers burnt in the past as much as us (Apart from clubs in administration, but I mean we as fans have seen the shit show paying big wages doesn't get you a player or team that give a toss).
Then again none of us wanted to sell Stewart, Ballard, Clarke, Patto, Ekwah, Roberts etc, and not many want to see the back of Batth Pritchard and possibly Gooch, so we can't have it all ways if we are losing money. It's got to be a balancing act somewhere ATM, even if we don't like to hear it
But how much do we gamble on overpaying on our budget to get on . Fee wise and wages wise? Or do we gamble keeping Stewart and possibly/probably lose out on 8 -10 million if the gamble doesn't pay off which is a huge amount to us ATM. It's a gamble either way. Let's hope we get what we all want and it fits in with our budget as much as possibleMass gamble wasnt needed mate just a CF ,we can cover most other positions.
I'd gladly keep him. I don't know what he's been offered or what he wants but if he signed a new contract today I'd be happy. It would still be a gamble after his injuries but I'd be more than happy if he signed a new deal. I'd be over the moon personallyIs one of the options not to say for example just offer Stewart championship striker wages and keep him ?
Agree. Point is it’s a fairly select list over 40 years. We’ve got Stewart at his peak, as we did Marco and Phillips. The difference is, one needed to leave to progress his career while Phillips left following relegation.I think I’d add gatesy to that list, not as lethal as skp but knew how to score goals.

I'd add Maja to that list. Not for as long and not as good as them - but for a short period with us he looked a real natural finisherI’m not saying he’s as good, but in my lifetime I’d probably put the likes of SKP, JD, Marco and Stewart as the most natural finishers for the club.
