Russell Martin has Ross Stewart as his main target **Transfer confirmed **

Scoring goals is never padding. Will never agree with you in this instance.
I did this the other day to demonstrate the same point, and I'll do it again.

Sunderland are looking at signing 2 strikers. They are both the same age, same height, same speed and are essentially identical in playing style. They both play in similar quality leagues for teams of similar standing.

Player A scored 20 goals last season, 14 of which were penalties.

Player B scored 20 goals last season, 2 of which were penalties.

Which player do you think is more likely to be a regular goalscorer, just on that information?

Fact:
A striker will be thru the door when Stewart leaves and we'll be in exactly same position we're in now, still needing, still short and still moaning, but hey ho.

We’ll only be in the same (shit) position if the bargain basement “replacement” is as good as RS.

Anyone confident of that? Anyone? Speak up now.

I would be very surprised if Rusyn scores less goals than Stewart this season. Not least because I think he is likely to play a lot more games than Ross.

You have suggested Ross Stewart, coming up to 28 years of age, who has never played at a higher level than the Championship (for 13 games) would be worth 30M or more.

Have a think about what you've said man.

No no, at no point did I suggest he would be worth 30m or more, that would be silly, you have assumed that, also silly.

If we leave this to the last day with no contingency we want shot with sh*te.

We could come out looking stonger with the right signings, as good as Stewart is (and we all know he is Very good), he is doing nowt for us as it stands. speakman earns his corn this week.

Stats wise he was out of this world in the 13 games he played, Jaoa Pedro was pretty much the championship's best player according to the website I use for them over the course, he went for 30m, Stewart was a mile above him.
So what are you suggesting?

Because if it’s only Rusyn that comes in, that’ll be absolutely correct. Rusyn or A.N Other was required to supplement what we had not to fill an outgoing slot

Other players have signed new contracts so it seems Stewarts demands are too high.

Just got to get the best price we can and move on. Its about time this got sorted one way or another anyway.
He is/was our best player and a goal scorer. He stepped up to the Championship with ease. If I was him I'd want to be top earner. Seems fair.

Unfortunately that puts him outside the wage structure of our model.

We seem happy to offer better deals to players in mid contract who we may have signed on low money but have proved their worth. However, when that worth is above our pay structure this is gonna be a problem? It may force us to move those players on but we won't get as much for them as they are running their contract down.

Akpom went to Ajax for £12m, age and contract situation the same, Akpom stayed fit and scored more last season but wasn't exactly banging them in before that. Stewart been more consistent in his time here but at a lower level.

Could we get closer to £10m and spend that on Cannon? Just a bit late in the window to be considering offers.

Given how hard we've found it to sign a striker for a while now you'd think the club would knock it back and crack on with Stewart in the side.

Rather than suggesting anything, I provided a different perspective to @Ilios post that focused on why Stewart's fee would be lower than Gyokeres.
So what do you think he'd worth then, If you weren't suggesting anything in stating Pedro went for 30M but Stewart was by far the better player?

If we can get a good replacement on a long contract like Cannon with the money we bring in it’s a no brainer. Stewart’s days here are numbered unfortunately
