Russell Martin has Ross Stewart as his main target **Transfer confirmed **

With a fit Ross Stewart? Anyone's got a chance. Do we know he's going to be the same player? absolutely not. Can we afford to put him on a 4 year deal on the same wages Southampton are offering and then risk the injuries again? Absolutely not. It's a gamble Southampton can afford and one we can't, that's the top and bottom of it. Not to mention, if Ross Stewart wanted to be a Sunderland player after this transfer window it would've been sorted out by now.

Yeah let’s just sell him then.

He is indeed, I'd be massively sorry to lose him. Good player who works his socks off for his team, scores goals, is defensively sound and potentially has his best years ahead of him. Pointless taking a strop against the board over it though, if Southampton want him they can throw a lot more money at him than we could.

If he’s not signing the contract we’re willing to give, and the club aren’t willing to budge, then his departure is inevitable. However, this has been likely for a good while and I’d have hoped Rusyn was coming to supplement Stewart as opposed to filling the gap he leaves. Not one of our overseas recruits to date has forced their way into the starting XI and been influential or impactful. This is going to have to change immediately if we’re to have anything like a campaign as decent as last season.

For me, as a fan I'd rather the club / Stewart just came out and said what is happening rather than the silence.

If he wants to go, name the price. If a club matches it, he can talk to them.

If he wants to stay but the club aren't near what he wants contract wise, so be it. At least we know where things stand.

As much as I want him to stay, get fit, and score for us again, the whole scenario has dragged on for long enough. We deserve to know what's going on.

Other players have signed new contracts so it seems Stewarts demands are too high.

Just got to get the best price we can and move on. Its about time this got sorted one way or another anyway.
Are we chucking Roberts into that, still need to sort his contract too.

If we get a replacement! That’s the issue at this stage of the window, particularly given our recruitment issues with strikers
Fact:
A striker will be thru the door when Stewart leaves and we'll be in exactly same position we're in now, still needing, still short and still moaning, but hey ho.

Let him go but get the best possible price for him. It won't be massive given his injury and contract.

I'm sure his presence is a factor in how difficult we are finding it to sign a striker. Anyone who expects to be first choice knows they will have to be better than Stewart and that's a big ask.

What's your point? .....ffs?
You have suggested Ross Stewart, coming up to 28 years of age, who has never played at a higher level than the Championship (for 13 games) would be worth 30M or more.

Have a think about what you've said man.
