I have no idea what the contractual gap is between Stewart and the club BUT we need to shore up his position, ideally with him, but if we end up with neither him or a capable replacement our season is goosed.

He is indeed, I'd be massively sorry to lose him. Good player who works his socks off for his team, scores goals, is defensively sound and potentially has his best years ahead of him. Pointless taking a strop against the board over it though, if Southampton want him they can throw a lot more money at him than we could.

no mate. a misunderstanding. I suggested that armstrong rumoured to be on something like £55k pw. On that basis I also suggest Soton will pay Roscoe more than we can afford. ..and more than he asked for in any earlier negotiations with us.

Gyokeres went for €20m, which is about £17m. He's also 2 years younger than Stewart, a regular in the Swedish national squad, and doesn't have a massive history of injuries.

He's also averaged 20 goals a season for the last 2 years at Championship level. Stewart has barely played at Championship level; yes he's scored a lot of goals in a small number of games, but that's a very small sample size.

Also, 3 of Stewart's 10 last season were penalties, and 1 other was a rebound of a penalty he missed. So that pads his stats a bit.

Gyokeres scored 40 goals in 2 years at Coventry, and only 3 of them were penalties.

I love the lad, think he is fantastic and his form last season for 13 games was unreal but the situation is what it is.

We had our chance to sign a new contract prior to last season starting and failed to capitalise, its now long gone, given I think the hierarchy has done a great job overall I'm not ranting over it but it's a big mistake on their behalf imo.

Hate that penalty point of "padding" mind, fails to mention that he was through on goal and got wiped out, hence why it was a penalty - but could easily have scored otherwise.

It is padding. You could have a LB take all of your penalties and he might get 10 goals a season from it. It doesn't make him a great goalscorer or a striker. Goals from open play are a much better indicator of how likely a striker is to regularly score goals.

Stats wise he was out of this world in the 13 games he played, Jaoa Pedro was pretty much the championship's best player according to the website I use for them over the course, he went for 30m, Stewart was a mile above him.
