not saying they are. Ross Stewart is worth more than we can afford at this moment in time. and we aren't going to break our wage structure to accommodate what he can get elsewhere

Even if those were his demands - and they’re not, as no club at this level would pay him that and Southampton definitely wouldn’t, they’re not mugs:

50/wk over 5 years is about what, 13m?

How much is a transfer fee plus signing on fee plus wages over five years likely to cost, for a proper like for like replacement? Beating in kind the market value of an Ellis Simms these days? And by that I mean an ACTUAL replacement. Not an unheard of cheap foreigner and/or inexperienced bairn, paraded around as a replacement.

If they want him they pay what we want? This contract shit is a load of bollocks as some of the fees for for players in the last year of their contracts have proved. If they want them bad enough they pay. I don't think he'll go but if he does I expect Southamptons eye balls to be on display in our trophy cabinet.
 
we should knick Southampton's other target Bojan Miovski. 16 goals in 33 games for Aberdeen and has 4 in 5 this season. 24 year old.

I‘d be happy enough effectively swapping Stewart and Lihadji for Cannon and Rusyn. Certainly makes us stronger in the short term. Would also mean we have 2 assets under contract as opposed to 1 who looks like he’ll walk away for nothing.

It’s not going to be as simple as that but no point getting worked up now about it. Let’s see where we are on Saturday morning. Could be like the Rotherham game last season where we wheeled 4 new signings out.
