The Hundred 2023

If you think a non Durham fan having a priority other than Durham is condescending then nothing I can do.

Durham fans will have priorities that understandably centre around Durham.

Non Durham fans like me won’t, that’s non condescending in the slightest
It was implying that we need to look at the fuller picture and that the world doesn't end at Durham that was condescending.

I am looking at the bigger picture which for me personally is increased participation at club level and ground level which hopefully a competition in prime time and on the telly live every night can achieve.

That’s it, that’s more important to me than what happens to Durham, that’s what I said and meant that is not accusing Durham of anything in the slightest

Durham County Cricket Club do absolutely loads for participation at club level in this area. They have community coaches, they offer assistance on ground preparation, they host courses for umpires, coaches and even scorers. All of which isn’t just in the county of Durham, they extend it all across the region and in terms of coaching and scouting our reach extends to Cumbria, Northumberland and even Scotland. What’s more, on a professional level Durham have produced more cricketers for England than any other county (except Yorkshire) since the 2005 Ashes - so don’t think you can come on here and claim to have the slightest idea of what is best for participation at club level in this area. Will club cricket exist if Durham CCC are allowed to die? Yes, probably it will, but there can be absolutely no doubt whatsoever that Durham CCC being in existence has improved English cricket as a whole for the better.

THAT is the reason why those with sympathies towards Durham (and county cricket as a whole) want to see it protected and preserved.
I am over the moon with that first paragraph although I am not seeing it, there is certainly pockets where it is striving but others where participation is falling rapidly and club teams are struggling to field teams another poster on here that is involved at ground level has already alluded to

Durham CCC aren’t to blame for that. As much as I’m sure you’d like them to be.
You're repeating the misguided propaganda from the media. The Hundred is not doing anything that T20 hasn't being doing for years. Have you ever been to a T 20 game? Plenty of families there. Do the Hundred players incidentally stay on the field for autographs and selfies as the T20 does?
This argument has become tedious because you constantly refused to answer the question "What can the Hundred do that the T20 wasn't doing?"That's the whole crux of the Hundred debate.

He’s never even been to a 16.4 game man. The bloke doesn’t go. He just comes on here to spout his ill informed bullshit that he’s been fed by the 16.4 propaganda machine in the false hope it creates some kind of grassroots cricketing utopia that will never happen.

Of course Durham are not to blame for that, nobody said they were, and I imagine but you will know better than me they do everything in their power to help, no reason to suspect anything other than Durham has the best interests of the game at heart.

So no, I would not like to blame them for that or anything else for that manner, as have nothing whatsoever against Durham just don’t support them and they not my priority if that ok?

I can only repeat although they not my priority, I completely take your points above and why loyal Durham supporters will fight and keep mentioning the outstanding work you have mentioned above.

I just happen to think again if ok to have a opinion, that Durham can only do soo much good work to increase participation and nationally more needs to be done.

Such as having a colourful short form fast paced tournament in the school holidays where every game is live to watch to try and engage youngsters to take up the game.

I am trying to be respectful to Durham, and what you and others are saying, but have a different concern for the longevity of the game and increased participation at ground level if that ok?

Not sure I can put my genuine opinion across in a more respectful way but will continue doing soo ,as I genuinely have that different opinion even if different from you.

I’m just glad that this overhyped visually ugly pile of Americanised awfulness is over.
Who won? Skipjack Tuna or Hoolahoops

Popchip PowerRangers I think marra.

No, that’s not what either I or @Parkside said. I’m inclined to suggest that you knew this all along, but after having read some of your previous bilge over the last handful of pages I’m no longer sure.

You’re still not grasping the fact are you? If you’re the one being condescending to others, it is NOT up to you to decide how others will feel and/or perceive how they view your comments.

It’s not up for discussion.
A chink of light in the TV coverage. The 2nd and 3rd T20s v NZ are live on BBC1 and BBC2 respectively and both on BBCI player.

I’m confident every one of these games will get more viewers than any single game in the 16.4.

I will continue to put genuine opinions across in what I consider a respectful way, I simply can’t control whether you think they condescending or not.

What I do absolutely know is they not meant that way from my perspective, again if you or anybody else wants to see it that way because I respectfully disagree with whatever getting debated at the time, again nothing I can do.

That existed for 15 years before the 16.4, it was called the T20 Blast and was immediately available to 55% MORE of the British public than the 16.4 is.

I am trying to be respectful to Durham, and what you and others are saying, but have a different concern for the longevity of the game and increased participation at ground level if that ok?

You can put that opinion across, but don’t get upset when people rightly point out to you that it’s far more likely to inspire tomorrows generation if they have a realistic chance of being able to go and watch game(s) in person and/or if they have a local team to be able to get behind and call their own.

Why would a little lad from Sunderland get excited about a team based in Leeds? Likewise a young lass from Liverpool getting excited about a team based in Manchester. Or even someone from the South West of ENGLAND being expected to support WALES?

You are. A Durham cricket fan put it to you that you were coming across as condescending to Durham cricket fans and I second that. It isn’t for you to decide whether you are being condescending or not, in fact, your denial only serves to further enforce his point.

Quite a think to post coming from the biggest condescending twat on the forum. You'd start and argument in an empty room

You’re right, you can’t. Since self awareness isn’t your strong point, you continue being condescending ;).

Thanks marra, good to see you’re still following me round like a lovelorn teenage girl. 😘

It's probably the first time I've quoted you in about two months man. Every now and again I love to remind Mr know it all that when it came to the biggest democratic vote in the country's history you fell in the wrong side if it. It's even more amusing watching you pretending it's not having a massive effect on why the country is such a shit show at the moment. Power to the workers eh 💪

It’s not upsetting, I actually enjoy the debate, hence the time spent on it, which is fair to say has been considerable:D

And yes I agree the tournament as I have said several times should be spread more through the country to possibly 10 teams to cover South West and North East, but think 18 teams as I have said before is too many teams to have for a tournament to be in a designated window and each game live and an event itself.

Obviously soo do the powers of be, and every other countries short format tournament takes on the above last line.

Yeah, so obsessed by me that you’ve followed me over to the cricket forum to talk about Brexit.

What a sad sad little weirdo you are.

It's even more amusing watching you pretending it's not having a massive effect on why the country is such a shit show at the moment. Power to the workers eh 💪

A sad little weirdo who is also making things up, I’ve commented literally hundreds of times on the politics forum on various threads about how Brexit absolutely HAS contributed to the current shitshow. If you’re so confident you’ve ‘got me’ over the way I voted in 2016, why do you feel the need to make things up in order to force home that point?
And yes I agree the tournament as I have said several times should be spread more through the country to possibly 10 teams to cover South West and North East,

So why should Leicestershire miss out? What about Sussex and Essex?? Two counties who get brilliant home crowds and who are producing England players?

but think 18 teams as I have said before is too many teams to have for a tournament to be in a designated window and each game live and an event itself.

Except it isn’t. You could EASILY incorporate all 18 counties into a T20 tournament in the school holidays that would see every game on FTA as a standalone event. EASILY.

Could you, I personally don’t think soo unless it’s straight knockout or 2 or 3 league games each at most.

You never asked for the how. More condescension.
You are a piece of work mind, you make me laugh, I really don’t know why I try and bother having a debate about with you about cricket, as all you interested in is scoring childish points or insults, and simply can’t accept a differing view.

You asked me if I could see something happening, in this instance the Blast being entirely televised as standalone fixtures. So I gave you an answer. I can see it.

How is that an insult?

As for why you bother having a debate with me about cricket - you don’t debate with me. You never have done. As others (@Parkside @Steak Pie, etc) will attest you don’t debate. You give your biased and ill informed view and when someone responds by pulling your points apart with reasoned and thorough debate you completely ignore what they’ve said and either reinforce your point or you claim that that’s what you were saying all along and offer the insinuation that it is us/they who don’t understand what you mean. You do it all the time.
and simply can’t accept a differing view.

You’re describing yourself.

Pretty sure those didn't exclude large swathes of the country when they were introduced
Depends what you’re talking about. The original Gillette Cup didn’t when it was introduced. It was open to every county side. Including Durham even though they were decades away from getting their top table golden ticket. The Blast is only open to a minority of county clubs though. Not as small a minority as get a 100 franchise. But still a minority. So it depends how you define “large swathes” I guess.

So it depends how you define “large swathes” I guess.

I’m going out on a limb here but I’m fairly confident he meant the 18 counties - and by large swathe, that’ll mean 55% of the current domestic setup. Fairly confident any sane person would consider 55% of your current supporter base to be ‘large’.
