New Music Releases Thread

 I’ve had a feeling it can be 50/50 good or epically shite watching their live clips on insta

I’ve missed a few chances to see them so thought I’d tick them off. They seem to have quite a backing like even though the lack of actual releases. Seems they’re now with Domino.
I've only seen them once and that was enough. Good energy but they don't have any good songs, which is slightly problematic. Really young following too which made me feel ancient. :)

Take it for what it is and you'll enjoy it. I'd recommend a lot of booze.

My brief review of last week's new stuff:

Genesis Owusu: a good album, reminds me a bit of the latest Young Fathers album.
Plae Jay: retro soul, very good if a tad brief (24 minutes).
Osees: by their recent standards a pop album. Good throughout.
Stephen Steinbrink: acousticy indie. One for fans of Ellott Smith or Sufjan. Very good!
Margaret Glaspy: grungy singer-songwriter rock with good hooks. Well worth a listen.
Rhiannon Giddens: probably her most straightforward Americana album, Excellent songs, cracking voice.
Jon Batiste: good but a tad overlong. There's a world music vibe here, intentionally.
Enji: traditional Mongolian music mixed with jazz. Surprising and interesting.
Arnold Dreyblatt: four fairly long instrumental tracks. He's an American minimalist composer. This is essentially analogue synth fronted post-rock. Very good!
Gregory Alan Isakov: terrific stuff. Stately, folkish Americana basically. Up there!

Album of the week: Gregory Alan Isakov, although everything ellse is pretty good to very good.

There are new releases this week from A Giant Dog, Alice Cooper, Be Your Own Pet, Becca Mancari, Buck Meek, Cindy Wilson, Danger Mouse & Jemini (a long shelved album), Hannah Georgas, Hiss Golden Messenger, Islands, Old Crow Medicine Show, Ratboys, Spellling, The Armed, Turnpike Troubadors, Victoria Monet, Wreckless Eric, Our Broken Garden, Jaimie Branch (her posthumous final album), Film School, Morgan Wade and Mapache.

Just how big a dog are we talking?

Buck Meek with a record. Is it just me or do Big Thief or members of release a record every single week? Usually good stuff but I wonder what they’d be like if they just took time to cultivate their songs.

Just about recovered from the assault on my senses that was Aphex Twin at Field Day. Absolutely outstanding but certainly an acquired taste I’d say
Was class wasn’t it? I was near the front but the crowd was being stupid like too much gear so people were constantly in and out not taking much notice of the music

Decided to go further back and had a much better time

The chatter was palpable but I managed to find a place where there was less talking (in my opinion.) Most of the people near me were far gone enough not to need to talk on.

Although maybe the 6.20 cans were helping drown it out I dunno.

Someone recorded the whole thing and put it on YouTube. Doubt it would be world class but would like to revisit parts of it.

Panda Bear & Sonic Boom - Reset In Dub was released digitally last week. Physical release not until December though. Adrian Sherwood has reimagined last year's Reset album. Prefer Reset to this.
Vocals are great on the new PiL album. Wasn't expecting much but really enjoyed it.
