The Hundred 2023


I hope this thread does not turn into the way the politics board sometimes does and politicians do all the time, trying to put a different spin on attendances and figures.

Would be better if those who want to just enjoyed the cricket on show and hopefully the weather keeps great for those watching and have enjoyable cricket to watch over the summer and cricket on nearly every night

And those that want to twist about without watching it can continue to do soo😀

People are entitled to watch it if they want. I won’t be. Firstly, my team wasn’t given any option of competing. The nearest venue is 100 miles away. The plans to even in some way involve our part of northern England were removed when they scrapped the womens games originally scheduled for Gosforth.

But the main reason is that this is the thin end of the wedge. There are some in the higher echelons of the game who wish to reduce the size of competitions and by definition the number of teams competing. I think that if we get to that stage, Durham will inevitably be a casualty. The more established teams eg, wouldn’t have to travel to the frozen north. We have already seen an example of Surrey’s attitude 2 seasons ago.

With the greatest of respect to those who say that they like/support the hundred, I think that they do not understand this, or are closing their minds to it, or maybe do not care about the future of our beloved Durham.

And even if the hundred is scrapped, it will inevitably be replaced by another franchise competition which I expect Durham won’t be part of. Different route, same outcome.

I appreciate that all of the above has been said before. I just wanted to highlight it again so perhaps the supporters of the competition might think about this again and examine their collective consciences. By supporting this, you may well be complicit in the demise of our club. Just give that some thought please.
 
I work in Leeds and went a few times last year. To be fair its a decent night out. Get why the old 4 day crowd are upset but not much us lads can do about it. Just enjoy it or dont watch it
 
This is all a bit embarrassing to read. There isn't a medal for who claims to hate the Hundred the most. The Hundreds is amazing at getting kids into the sport, which cricket seems to be struggling with at the moment.

How dare the players go and set themselves up for when their short careers end.

I think there is also people who just enjoy cricket and watching like myself and love all cricket.

This test series has been brilliant but I also really enjoy watching the IPL and T20 blast

I don’t have to be affiliated to a certain club/county to enjoy cricket.

In them two tournaments I have a couple of bets and enjoy the exciting cricket on show and obviously support the team I have bet on.

The hundred I will do exactly the same and enjoy it as for me the only difference between this and IPL and T20 blast is 20 balls.

The biggest disappointment is the lack of quality overseas players that we were originally promised that definitely has not materialized

It's still cricket so of course I'm sure it will be fun.

The point is and remains. Why the new competition and why not more investment into the blast, put that on terrestrial TV.

It was badged as something to rival the IPL or BBL. Yet the players in the squads are the same as the Blast.

There's talk of an expansion and Durham rumoured to be one of 2 new teams, i think even if the idea is scrapped and new tournament to start its never going to be 18 teams no matter much people shout about it, TV companies hold the aces and they dictate windows and how much they want,

just have to hope the ECB and powers that be feel were in the top 10 teams

Yeah I think probably best to not have the hundred in its current format as 16.4 overs is certainly not everybody’s cup of tea.

But undoubtedly in this modern cricket world this country should have a major high profile short format competition should be just T20 and where all games televised.

It was one thing having a major short format tournament in peak time to attract fans which I strongly believe is fundamentally a good idea.

It was a step too far to change from 20 overs to 100 balls

Whether that is possible with 18 teams is highly unlikely imo, hence we have this silly situation of two short format tournaments when we should have just one big one!

Easy said than done obviously with all the politics behind it.

i dont think it can be done, 2 divisions doesnt work either, it unfortunately will have to 8 or 10 teams and the money shared out between the 18, but i cant see how the smaller counties survive without those 7 or 8 home t20 games they usually have to generate income

but if we do nothing we will be left behind all other countries

to certain extent yes, but Div 2 would have to be a lack lustre live stream, theres no way they'd put the production costs into it, i watched first hand last year from a hotel room in headingly the massive poduction be stripped down packed up and shipped out the same night down to Glamorgan to be set up for the next game
