5th test the oval

Stokes has continued to make some piss poor decisions in this test but no doubt will hide behind the weather and the media will give him an easy ride. Not bowling Wood until 30 odd overs when he should have bowled the first is baffling along with picking 3 medium/quicks on what is historically a flat wicket

Stokes has cost England the Ashes

If we lose 3-1 at home it’s not a good series for England. I’ll find it difficult to sit through press conferences listening to discussion of moral victory and entertainment and take it seriously.

I’m not buying any of this test match cricket saviour stuff because if England lose 3-1 at home playing ‘Bazball’ it’s hardly going to be convincing Aussies and other nations to adopt it. They’ll simply adapt to how we play and try to nullify it.

That’s not to say England should abandon the approach at all either. It just needs refining at times, particularly with decision making.

Jason Gillespie made a good couple of points in an online article. Stokes is trying to save test cricket, did the Ashes need saving he asked? He also said Australia came to take the Urn back with them which they achieved with a test to go. Going into this test, England are 2-1 down at home yet Australia are getting bashed for the nature of their cricket

Someone should tell Stokes cricket is a results business first and foremost. You do what you need to do to win ie, bashing it at 6 an over is not going to work in every test

Stokes trying to justify his crazy Anderson selection by giving him more overs than anyone else… in the hope he takes some wickets. Boot licking commentary team and mates Butcher, Hussain and Atherton have passed no comment 🤔…The great Bob Willis certainly would have said something 😡
Please prove my wrong Jimmy!

No. And he’s absolutely right to ask that question because the Ashes has been alive, thriving and well. And test cricket in England has been popular regardless of opponents.

Nothing does more for test cricket in this country than an England win in the Ashes and we havent won.

The thing that gets me is when they say they aren’t bothered about results as they are in the entertainment business. That’s utter bollocks really as all sport is based upon results . If England lose their next 10 tests as it’s unlikely as that is, Stokes and McCullun would surely be relieved of their duties.

Rain is our best chance now. Again shows we batted like tits.
From memory Duckett, Brook and Root got good balls. I hesitate to criticise Crawley too much as he played well but he ended up getting out the way he always gets out. Stokes’ dismissal was pathetic and the rest of them weren’t much better.

All you hear on this board for the last few years with the introduction of and increased popularity of shorter format cricket is test cricket should be the priority and all concerned about too much white ball cricket.

As possibly not in England but worldwide dying on its feet.

What this England test side as done is buck the tend make test cricket the priority once again, by playing a great revolutionary cricket.

That is better to watch than ever before in the history of that game, furthermore not only that prior to this series has seen us produce a winning run of results up there with any winning run England test team has ever seen.

This series has been absolutely superb for test cricket and exactly what it needed.

However most of the posts on this thread over the 5 tests where we have gone toe to toe with the best side in the world and has been nothing between the sides has been twisting.

Of course they bothered about results, they saying that so that players can play without fear playing their natural game and take the pressure of them.

Which in turn before this series got our test team to produce a winning run of results very rarely ever seen from a England team

That’s nonsense. When the cricket has been excellent it’s been said. When some of it hasn’t been, it’s been criticised.

What the Bazball cheerleaders aren’t having is that any of this might be wrong at times. There is also absolutely no evidence whatsoever that this approach is revolutionising test cricket. That type of comment is delusional and patronising. Are Australia going to be jetting back with the urn retained, possibly with a first series victory in 22 years, thinking that they need to adopt the English method? I very much doubt it.

Very strange bowling choices with Anderson bowling more than Wood and Woakes combined  starting to wonder just what is going on from England today
250 is still a lot of runs, especially if this pitch goes on the 5th day. Could do with having them 200-3/4 and 250-5 as 130 runs is a lot at that point.
