Stuart Broad retires

Thats got nowt to do with holidays though man.
Thats more to do with the attraction of the format.
Thats what Stokes is trying to improve. To make Test cricket exciting again, and they are succeeding in that. Nowt to to with holidays as you said.

People plan their holidays around tests at certain venues man. Been on the increase for years. I even do it myself. Test cricket is dead in the Caribbean, South Africa and other places. Stuart Broad being good for England isn't going to change that.

Problem is I dont think your average Cricket aware bod in the West Indeis will even be watching England tests that don't involve their team. They don't even watch the ones that do. So it really does not matter how exciting England can make it.

I’m close to tears watching this little compilation on sky. What a player he’s been for England.
It was brilliant. I too welled up a little. He made his debut when I was 15 and I’m now 31 so literally more than half my life ago. It feels so strange. It might sound ridiculous but it’s like when the Queen passed. They’ve been there for so long you just think they’ll go on forever.

I’ll be a bloody mess when Jimmy goes.
Nice thread.

Think him and Jimmy will still be our top test wicket takers in 50 years
They won’t be surpassed ever with how the game is going.

We're the only country that takes any fans in numbers to the Windies, so they have at least two of the three tests in places where it's easiest for us to get a flight to. The third can be a bit random sometimes but is often St Lucia (another place with plenty of flights from the UK). Don't think we'll ever play another test in Guyana which is a bit gutting for me cos it's the only test ground in South America and the only continent I've never seen a test.

His 8-15 was one of the greatest sporting performances I have ever seen.

He had genuine all-rounder potential early in his career.

A genuine pinch yourself morning that. Couldn't believe it was happening.

I think he would have took a few less wickets if he'd gone down the all rounder route so it was England's that he didn't.

Been chatting to my mate tonight about Broady and we were agreed we can't ever remember him being injured for any length of time. Looked after himself well.

On the occasions that I have seen England play the Windies out there, there has not been a lack of people watching marra.

But thats nothing new man. Always happened, and my experience of following the cricket is not what you say.
It's a glib comment to say its dead in "other places", and far from true of the two named examples you gave.
There are only 6 or 7 nations that play top level international cricket. If you believe it is dead in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Australia and New Zealand, you are sadly mistaken marra.

England regularly play tests in the same few venues that attract the tourists. Barbados, Antigua, Cape Town, Wellington, Galle, Kandy etc. The home team want them there cos it's a good earner for their association.
So does that not prove that its still a draw for people?
