The End of the 16.4?

It's a bit of a chicken and egg situation. Do kids get a desire to watch cricket by being introduced to playing the game I e. by taking the game into schools or by putting it on mainstream TV to attract their attenrion.
Local clubs introducing it by going into schools using the chance to shine funding is the way forwarded -perhaps free entry to T20 games for school parties. Clubs would recupe the entrance fee from refreshment sales. Only later will they gain interest in the longer form of the game
It’s a really difficult one, as years ago it was natural for kids to play football in the winter and cricket in the summer, unfortunately times have changed footbal now too big and even kids play in the summer, as well as kids not going outside as much due to PlayStation’s etc.

Personally I think it’s needs to be on tv and the focus on one competition in peak time with all the best players available and each game an event that all are watching, not sure that can be achieved with soo many teams in this country

However don’t think there is a magic formula, and second point certainly worth a go.

I have an interest in T20 because Durham play in it (albeit sometimes not as well as well as we would like). If the ‘new’ short form competition is franchise based and doesn’t include Durham, I would have zero interest in it.

So if that’s the plan, I expect that it will largely go the same way as the 16.4. I’m not really arsed if the best players in the world can be attracted to it if they’re playing for Leeds, Manchester or whoever. I suspect that many of us will be of the same view.
This for me as well. Franchises don't appeal to a UK audience as its too manufactured. If its not the counties then I wont be watching as I don't care who wins.

Exactly. It may work in countries where the teams are that new that older fans will remember before them and younger fans have parents or grandparents that can recall them starting up

Not here where we have generations and generations of support going back to previous centuries

Not sure I 100% get that tbh, I get you support your own side/county, I may be wrong but do really care about the others results now?

You seem to be saying you would not care about the result between two franchises.

But do care about the result between Worcestershire and Northamptonshire or Derbyshire and Leicestershire now if it does but affect your own side?

No different to the football really. I care about Sunderland and the results of clubs close to us in the table usually. I don't really care, but still have a passing interest in Colchester v Swindon.

I look at the other county results but the result of a Div One game isnt going to spoil my day. I will happily watch two other counties in the Blast and thoroughly enjoyed this years finals day. I have never even seen a single over of an IPL game or the hundred (do they even have overs?).

I throughly enjoyed the blast finals day but also really enjoy the IPL.

They both thoroughly enjoyable T20 games.

It'll be a 20 over competition with the same silly made up southern-biased franchises and it'll be more commercialised, player auctions and all that shit. The blast is a bit gimmicky but it's still a county competition and the finals day idea is brilliant.

It'll be bye bye Hula Hoops and Skips and hello Bank of India and refreshing "Dilmah Tea Moments" and people cycling to spin giant washing machines on the boundary between overs. (Anyone who watched the Pakistan series will cringe with me).

More revenue for the "host venues", more to the ECB of course and less for the Northern counties, least of all Durham.

The Hundred is awful but its replacement is not necessarily a Good Thing.

I'd miss the T20s at the Riverside but agree with others, the bunching up of the games in the current schedule is a pain. We get cheap tickets through the bairns doing All Stars and Dynamos but tunnel, fuel, parking and the odd beer adds on £30 a go.

Plus their all stars sessions are also on a Friday so the kids only get to a couple of the games.

As we said before it launched, it was always a disaster - if the 16.4 was a success it would spell the end of county cricket, if it was a failure it would still have an awful impact and doom the county system.... Just slightly slower

Been watching a competition on Viaplay extra which is a free view channel which is T10 from Zimbabwe

the game today involved Ravi Bopara, Will Smeed and Tom Banton

the other side was captained by Eoin Morgan who delivered a masterclass in winning a tight match by 2 runs

i though Morgan had retired altogether but he was playing today
