4th test Manchester

Would you not say Cook in Australia in 2010 trumps everything? Consistency over a series (766 runs at 127 average) whilst winning in Australia. The last side to do this was in 1986 some 24 years earlier so history not on his side

Yeah think it’s easy to forget that series as it’s never shown on sky we get edgbaston and headingley shoved down our throats you can get decent highlights of 05 09 and 13 on YouTube but you hardly ever see extended highlights of that series it’s a real shame

Chris Tremlett was ridiculous in the tests he played

I can think of one certain crystal palace fan currently banned on here who does

Maybe there’s your answer then. If he’s banned, he’s going to be MiA 🤷‍♂️
I'm a "Bazball sceptic" shall we say. Bazball has led us to this point, where we have to go even more ultra aggressive to save the series because of the dreadful forecast, which was always likely to happen at some point in the series

Yeah, it led us to a 2-0 deficit, in fairness. I’ve enjoyed today wholeheartedly, but let’s not overlook the fact I’d still rather be in their shoes.

Every day seems like a One-dayer with this team, the run rates are ridiculous! Who would have thought 2 years ago when we started batting chasing over 300 we would have done it with ease well inside a day?

Was dropped about 5 times wasn’t he

Can't remember, but I'd imagine if you ask him, all of the shots were intended and he knew the Aussies would drop them.

I find the bloke utterly awful. I'd rather listen to Jim Maxwell (note....he's a tit as well) however, I don't remember him being quite such a tit previously.... I wonder if the stroke he had had affected his personality.

Vaughan and Strauss averaged 40 and Atherton 37 and they were amongst our best. He’s a long way from that but certainly capable of finishing his career in the mid 30s. He’s as good as we have and while he’s no world beater he’s not the utter plank you make out he is.
Nothing like the SMB getting carried away after a single performance is it 🤣

I agree wholeheartedly, but when it works it's fantastic viewing. Shame Australia slowed the over rate, about time they looked at 3 30 over sessions! When the players start getting hungry then maybe it will speed up the game! If you are behind the over rate then stop drinks breaks!

Surely though it had to be put into context?

It has also led us to 3 0 victories over two other top nations and completely transformed our test fortunes from where we were before it.

I do agree at times during this series mistakes have been made because of it.

But putting everything into context it has been a big success surely?

Said for years and years more should be done to ensure the overs are getting bowled - it’s not cheap to watch Test Cricket in this country and when you’re being robbed of 10 overs per day it’s a disgrace.

If Bairstow wasn't wicket keeper maybe we could be 3-0 up in this series, despite his brilliant catch yesterday!

It’s hard to compare individual knocks against performances over a series tbf

Exactly this, the authorities have got to look at alternative ways of penalising teams, rather than dock their pay packet (most are millionaires anyway thanks to the likes of the IPL) Maybe large run paenalties should be the way forward!

Fine margins mate, lot made of the first test but they needed fifty odd with just 2 wickets left, normally you would expect to win from that position and we would be 2-1 up and well on top in this one looking to win the ashes.

And while different conversation.

We have not to forget that imo Australia a very good side been a great series with very little between the teams
What a thoroughly enjoyable day of test match cricket
The session between lunch and tea we absolutely destroyed them and was a joy to watch.
