I'm not a fan of bowling first if you win the toss, but I can see why Stokes does it as it fits with what he and McCullum see as England's strengths.

In saying that, I'd rather see them bat first, get a 400+ score, and put all that scoreboard pressure onto the opposition.

Batting second is ideal in local cricket where you can theoretically control the outcome in your favor - win, or draw at the least. I'm not sure the same applies at Test Match level.
Expecting a lot of rain over final 2 days in a must win test, you have to go for it.
 
The question is whether wood was asked to be in a bit for one dropping short not thinking Smith would play a shot with that carry

One of those I expect if it drops short he should be in if it goes long a couple steps back - just down to a bit of luck for Smith sadly
