4th test Manchester

Surely Tongue would have been next in line to replace Ollie. Jimmys averaging 75 with ball as opposed to Tongues 30 this series. Tongues got more wickets in less innings.

It's rained on most days in the last week, mostly heavy but often short. It will be very stop start if it continues like this. I'm a few miles from OT, it's really dark, there's thunder and lightning but it isn't actually raining here. Any rain around might skirt the ground if we're lucky.
 
I think Anderson is a reasonable call, even if Tongue would have been a decent shout too. People should judge him on the last 12 months, not two tests. His speeds were still 83mph at times. I’m confident that he’ll be fine.

Announcing our team so early pisses me off though. In theory it could help them take a view on Warner etc (in a world where Broad was a marginal pick).

absolutely not imo.

However Tongue bowled better when both played no doubting that.

Personally I trust the set up and if the wicket and conditions suit Jimmy think it’s fair to say he has proved people wrong before and may do again.

Hes probably played more FC and test innings in the top 3 than anyone else in the side

Our middle order are better players in the positions their going to bat in.

I'm more annoyed were announcing our side so soon again.

Why have we leaked our team every test and we effectively leaked it 4 days early when they announced Jimmy was gonna play last night.

As was always gonna be Jimmy for Robinson as only change they'd make.

What happened to announcing it at the toss?

Why give Australia more time to plan?

Could have left Brook at 3, it's a contrast to everything else they've done that they abandoned that idea so quickly.

Yeah fair point, they do normally stick with plans longer.

But think the fact that Brook more or less won the game from 5 and that his attacking intent is clearly suited further down, little option but to put him back imo.

If they going to move a main batsman to 3, Root the best suited and technically capable but not going to happen.
 
I was listening to TMS for part of the last test and Andy the statistics man was saying that Moeen has batted at every position bar 11 in internationals. I’m far from convinced he should be batting at 3, but there seems to be little other choice.

I’m lucky enough to be going for all 5 days. Can’t wait 😁

Picking Jimmy and Woakes in the same side in essence means were a bowler down
 
Naming the Test side early is probably because there are County Championship games starting the same day, so those not involved could maybe get a game in!
 
Can't complain too much given we won the last test but the extra pace of Tongue would have probably suited Old Trafford and Moeen at 3 just doesn't seem anything better than a pinch hitting experiment.
 
Happy with Jimmy in and I like Moeen at 3 more than anything to keep Brook and Root where they are. You know Moeen’s going for under 30, but he’ll at least give it a couple of cracks to take the shine off the ball.

The big expected disappointment in the team is persisting with Bairstow, but come to accept we’re stuck with him. If it costs us then they can get f*****d because we’re now at the point where all fans can see it, not just the early complainers like myself.
 
Someone was trying to convince me the other day that the only reason Bairstow is playing is because it was Stokes that caused his broken leg, by shanking a shot and then accidentally hit him with a golf club! Never heard such crap ever!! Stokes would never shank a shot! 🤣 🤣 🤣

Met office now saying a little rain on the morning of the 4th then a 20% chance afterwards.

Must’ve changed about 6 times in the last few days

That’s the nature of meteorology I suppose. I have more weather apps than you can shake a stick at, but the Met Office and the Netweather radar app are usually the most reliable.
