If you look at the current England cricket team, where would it be without Yorkshire and Durham? A side shorn of Root, Bairstow, Wood, Stokes, Potts, Brook et al would be a laughing stock in world cricket

Root, Stokes and Wood are the equivalent of Haaland, Mbappe in football yet both counties are mired in financial debt. With no transfer market to generate money, what can be done to ensure those that do most for English cricket are able to generate money off the back of this? The current status quo is not working

Should counties be awarded tests based on how many players they have playing for England so Durham get 2 tests in an Ashes series?

Makes you wonder how many back handers were involved in getting Southampton an Ashes Test in 2027 ahead of Headingly and Old Trafford.

Aye, England and Durham fast bowler. You might have heard of him
The convicts have certainly heard of him!
The issue is not so much the venues but more how the profits from test matches are shared. It's logical to allocate them to the venues with the largest capacities to maximise revenue. Durham, with a capacity of 15,000 can't compete with Lords,Old Trafford,Edgbaston. Counties providing test players get compensated circa £10000 for each player for each test. Durham will receive about £100000 compensation this year whilst counties hosting a test match will receive several million £s. Got Mr Graves to thank for that.

With no Durham or Yorkshire there are no competitive ashes for people to watch. Maybe for each test match, the home venue has to pay the counties £250k for each of their player on view so in this test Durham would pocket 500k and circa £3m or so over the series. A home county pays out 5.5m per test then trousers the rest

The net result is counties bend over backwards to produce players for England
